I puchased iso replacement bushings and buffers from a canadian supplier who it turns out is getting them from "Norvil" i use Andover part numbers when ordering expecting to get andover parts.

I had a lot of problem installing the bushings as the rubber was hard, but i had no way to compare them as i had never done rebuilt the iso's before. and the vibration does not disappear like i remember as the rpm go up.

so over the weekend i spent some time trying to determine who is Norvil, and i'm even less happy with what i found.

can someone tell me how to verify if the rubber bushings are the right durometer, sadly i assembled this all last year and so the old bushings have been trash canned at that time

I'm not interested in bashing vendors, but

If the vibes are not completely gone by 3000 rpm and the isos are set correctly then the rubbers are too hard
If they came from norvil then they will be of the lowest quality
It sounds like you will have to do the job over again unfortunately!!

I think his inner steel tubes are the wrong side and some metric std size for cheapness so the through bolt is not a good fit.

Doubt they are any good at all and I would not bother checking.

the steel tubes in the bushing were a good slide fit so that was not a prblm.

just to be clear; these are still the pre mk3 units, so all individual pieces.

Can anyone tell me what the length of the steel tubes should be? bot the front outer and loose inner?

I avoid buying from N*rvil whenever possible, I seem to remember their stuff was pretty much ok 20-odd years ago, but it's certainly drifted way off since, to the point where stuff just doesn't fit any more – maybe connected to AN cancelling their trade account ... And if you try telling them their stuff doesn't fit, in my experience they tell you it's your fault.

Recently a mate phoned me because his mate had bought a commando clutch center that he couldn't fit the bearing into as it was bored undersize
3 guesses where he bought it!!!

+1 ... on do NOT buy from N*rvill. Parts do NOT fit, they would not give a refund (my experience) ... and they are down right rude. Never again would I do business with them. Just my 2 cents.

I sometimes buy stuff from Norvil as well as other suppliers and haven’t had any issues with the quality of the parts or their service. I recently fitted their belt drive kit to my 1972 750, it was well made and a good price. I live half way round the world so don’t want to have to wait for a shipment and then send stuff back if it’s no good, I do recall that they sent me a rubber fork gaiter that had an issue and they sent a replacement immediately without me having to send back the original. I don’t have shares in their company or any other agenda, just citing my own experience with them.

Update: Andver bushings arrived, i swapped the front ones installed the Andover removed the Norvil,as they were my concern. THERE is a big difference between what Andover supplies and what Norvil supplies. Without going into vendor bashing, the Andover bushings provided to fit the pre MK3 isolastics are still nice and soft and plyable and real easy to mount. The Norvil are not! much firmer, do not flex and are a real bitCh to install.

buy what your norton feels happy with.

this concludes a lesson on mail order procurement. you need to specify the exact parts you want, otherwise you may not be happy with what arrives.

if you have any further question contact me directly I do not want to discuss the vendors in question on this forum.

thanks

I had exactly the same problem years ago. Spoke to Norman White who sent me some genuine i.e. Andover rubbers & problem solved. If you buy Norvil ( Emery ) parts be prepared to check every single item. Of course it's your fault & not the parts, at least that's what Les Emery will tell you!

I too ordered Norvil isolastics and found the tubes and shaft to be a terrible fit. I did not bother returning them, ordered from Mick Hemmings- a pleasant experience. and after reading other people's experiences I will never order from him again.
