Anyone out there have a used starter motor manufacturer prestolite. I need it for the parts (field coils) only

Hi Oscar,
Have a look at the threads regarding starters, if you need field coils, it's probably easier to get a Johnson or Evinrude starter or frame with the 4 field coils and just swap your end caps and armatures into it. The 4 brush conversions are awkward because you have to solder or spot weld the grounds for the coils onto the steel frame.
Also there is good starter info on the Norton Owners Club website, I think they also list the Prestolite P/N for the frame and coils. Even if you have to put new brushes in them it's a much easier job.

I was going to make the 4 brush conversion also then I saw what Comnoz had done. I replaced my battery with an Odyssey 625,cleaned and replaced the brushes on my 2 pole. The only other change I did do was make up a set of leads using 6 gauge marine battery cable. The results were amazing. IMO save the time and effort on changing the starter and just do the battery and cable upgrade. Just to warn you the battery is a very tight fit, it's going to take a little playing with.
