I've been trying to figure out how to remove the steering lock cylinder on my 1975 Norton MK3. I decided in order to do this I would have to remove the front fork yoke. I then placed the yoke in a vise on my drill press. I had to use a 1/8” drill bit with a 6” long shank in order to drill out the 1/8” x 1/4” long clevis pin that was holding in the Neiman cylinder lock barrel. The pin didn't seem to be harden steel and it drilled out great. Just have to take your time at a medium speed. I used Tap Magic cutting fluid. As I got down to the last 1/16 of and inch, the shavings quit coming out the hole. I knew then the pin was turning in the hole. I removed the drill bit and then I made a small beveled punch out of a 1/8” drill bit. I used it to remove the rest of the pin by lightly tapping it into the pin and then drawing it out.

NOTE: You must remove the steering yoke from the bike, because the Neiman locking cylinder has to be punched out, after the clevis pin is removed, from the top down pushing it out the bottom of the yoke.

I found a new Norton MK3 Neiman steering lock with keys at “Motoparts Inc” They are located in Edmonton Alberta Canada and are a British motorcycle parts store.

I ordered the cylinder with keys yesterday and it will take a week or two for shipping.
