Hi All.
Have you ever seen such a thing?
The previous owner had already acquired in this way and didnt know why.
Hard to explain.
I've already prepared the missing piece and I will weld it.
Hopefully good!
Ciao
Piero

Could the motor have been out of a drag bike that had been fitted with a supercharger? I can't think of any other reason why someone would go to that much trouble!

Oh Piero!
Is this italian craftsmanship?
Maybe the previous owner wanted a lightweight motorcycle?
You will need a new timing cover also!

Hi.
The previous owner said me that he had heard that the engine had fallen from the Workbench!!!!!!!

no they can be driven from the timing side, there is one i have seen fitted with an asin 500 supercharger driven from where the magneto would drive on an atlas etc

I am interested in any details you have on this. I have thought about this approach for one of my builds but only in concept. In my opinion, the timing pinion on the crank is already pretty heavily loaded as is.

So where did you get the replacement piece?
Wouldn't it be easier (and look and fit better) to find a good used crankcase half?

Or leave it alone?

oh that's just crazy talk.
That's like painting a moustache on the Mona Lisa (or removing her nose).

BUT you´d have something no one else have.... 8)

When I saw the donor piece I immediately thought somewhere there is another crankcase half is missing it's magneto lobe.

I think we've got crossed wires here - it doesn't matter which side a supercharger is driven from, it still needs space - and if the back of the timing chest was in the way, chopping it off might have allowed something to fit that otherwise wouldn't have gone in!

Some people do things such as that 'because they can' . It's the same shit as turning old Brit bikes into choppers.

Take a look at ray Coleman's supercharged Norton's on YouTube cheers baz

Nice that the timing cover holds everything in proper alignment while it's welded.
My hat's off to any welder who can weld that odd shaped part made of old porous aluminum full of oil while still in the frame!
Good on ya!
