Just read this on FB from the Vintagent (nice old bikes blog):
The Vintagent
I heard from a peerless source today that Norton will likely be dead within weeks...motorcycling is a very tough business...

Anyone heard this too?

There are people who believe that. I hope they make it a little longer.

Lots of people for whatever personal reasons would like to see Norton fail, I suppose so they can feel superior and say I told you so.

I would be very surprised, given the backlog of orders they reportedly have and seemingly future high demand if they went out of business.

I was under the impression that their financing was very solid and well thought out.

Maybe this is just a rumor, wishful thinking of someone's part?

I hope it's not true. I'd like to see them succeed.

Besides, I'm eager to see what Terblanche comes up with!

Just went to nortonmotorcycles.com, there doesnt seem to be any evidence of the company failing.

there is a link in the "news" section where you can follow the CEOs twitter account. I am not a twitter member, but if somebody is, maybe you could ask
stuart himself if the rumoors are true. Seems business as usual.

If they are failing the last place you will see it is on a public facing site. Nor would they relay that information via a personal message on Twitter.

For a company in difficult financial times the thought is not how to tell everyone how bad it is, because they are too busy trying to secure additional financing. And if you let people know you are in trouble it's a wee bit difficult to get more money.

This is true......There have be at least 3 business in my neighborhood this year that just locked up. No warming, no goodbyes, just "sorry we are closed for good" sign.

But still, I am sad to see Norton go if it does happen...I was hoping for anothe revival like Triumph. could you imagine 7 or 8 Norton Models to choose from ( sport, touring , standard, scooter?) and a Enduro version. Would be great.

If you make the assumption that Norton's management team has someting on the ball, or if you assume that Terblanche knows a little about motorcycle companies; why would celebrated designer accept a position on a sinking ship?? Why would management offer said celebrated designed a highy profile position if they were up to their belts in water?

There are just too many positive signs, plus this aweful economy seems to be turning the corner. The Japanese makers are turning out new models, Triumph is putting up a new 800cc Tiger and Moto Guzzi, a company that has been trying to go out of business for the last 20 years, has finally got an overhead cam engine.

This roumer mill could have someting if all of Norton's management has discovered younger Christine Keelers or crack (or both)...

I don't have an inside track...

If I were in their shoes I'd want to make the appearance that they were moving forward. Hiring a well-known designer would appear good to future investors.

Or they are doing ok and this is just moving forward.

Take your pick.

Well they had a large stand at the (EXEL)London bike show with the new Cafe Racer and the rest of their range only two weeks ago. They had loads of interest it was probably the busiest stand there and they were taking lots of orders/deposits. Anyway I hope this isn't true as I am due to get my 961 Sport for March 1st!
