I have seen lots of different tork amounts in different factory manuals and on line tork spec sheets.

A 1973 OEM manual lists 25 Lbs

on line info has other numbers I've seen from 30-35 Lb

So what is going on. If you reply give the number you use and the source of the info.

do it dry with lubed threads>

I will contact Andover in the mean time to see what they say, as they make the parts,

A bolt / stud stretch amount could also be helpful. Carl H

Thank you, I'm new to posting on the site, But I did try to search in this site for info, But for some reason , I did not come up with the info you sent. My logic kind of told me 25 lbs was a good #, as they are 5/16 diameter. I did make a tork wrench adapter with a 1/2 " sized hex on it, so I can tork as accurately as possible on the new type studs. So ,Thank you again, I appreciate it! CH

Well after a lot of searching around, I found this site and it hopefully explains some of the TORQUE settings dry and with lube , , But as most sites say, consult your manufacturer's recommendations .

Imperialsupplies.com gave the best data and included clamp loads I found Carl H.

I sell on Ebay using the name racingnorton Carl Hokanson Acushnet Ma

I got some Norton bits off you some years ago (To Australia) iirc, plus you got me the Kibblewhite valve train parts for my Triumph TR5T.

You might have noticed by the lack of replies, it is for the most part a non interest subject and based on previous posts elsewhere only a small percentage here torque those fasteners even the four in plain view it seems.

The right angle adapter I made only had a 3/8" drive given the low torque.
I had done a torque test in the machine vice previously and sure enough directly torqueing and with the adapter gave the same rotation at click off back to back and repeated.

Just wounder how many have their Torque wrenches calibrated with a certificate of results. It was costing me about Aus$120 per instrument per year .I had to as part of work agreement and it did show how over time they could be inaccurate specially if left wound up to near max and left for weeks.

Winding back the torque wrench to the lowest setting is also like taking the pressure off your hacksaw blade frame.... things like this taught you as an apprentice stick with you for life, especially when your master Teck hits you over the back of the hand for not doing it to his tools

Why is it that torque wrenches always seem to go from zero to 20 or 15-100 but never
anything useful for bikes like 0-40? They say a wrench is more accurate in whatever its midrange is.

I just take them to work for checking for free and have no experience of that storage method, all are wound off after use.
Two Snap On's, two Facoms, a Warren and Brown and one other going from 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch drive.
