Really like the look of the new Atlas so popped an email off to Norton for any updates. I was not really expecting a reply.
Got a reply back the next day. Atlas production is to start in the second half of next year. Great news.

If SG didn't hit the skids, it would have been reported as 200+ built and sold. They really SHOULD continue the 961. Its actually what got the world excited....then deflated. Willing to bet they can make it better.

I also enquired as to when they'd be available, Ray Bradley got back to me and sent a PDF ans said they'll be in contact when production starts.
PDF was too big so took photos of it, here they are for those that may be interested.

Hello Bluedog , This is the same material they had before they went into administration. Lets hope they are not using the same rear wheel hub as the 961 with the short lived dampers . It would also be good if they could supply it without the spoked wheels especially for the Nomad. Norton has a long hill to climb unfortunately. And when these bikes are available , a full test compared to other machines in their category is essential for me . And what is their category ? SV 650 , MT07 , Ninja 650 , KTM 790/890 ? Right now my glass is half empty , but still hopeful.

To each his own etc.

If they’re good bikes and priced right, they’ll sell. And I hope they do.

But personally, I could not be less interested.

Curiously, the article simply says the Atlas twin has been scrapped.
The article did not say that 650 engine will not be used.
Is it possible that Norton are just scrapping plans to build the models that SG had created?
Will Norton create new 650 models with more modern (angular plastic bits) spaceship styling like the fare from other mainstream motorcycle manufacturers?

Fair play if they want to work on their own models, but it would be good to see a bike from them at a similar price range and let the folks with deposits use it against them. Really surprised that there is little PR coming from the new entity.

Its a catch 22 though isn’t… without products to talk about… or racing exploits… or etc… what should the PR machine actually talk about…?

They dragged out the ‘state of the art factory’ story for a year…
