I leave tomorrow for the rally, which is on the South Island this year. From Auckland that is about 1200k (or 750 mi), including a 3 hr ferry from Wellington across the Cook Straight.

The weather the last 3 weeks has been clear, stunning and ~28C (82F).

Of course, from tomorrow we have severe weather warnings with the threat of Cyclone Oma bringing "a deep system east of the country on Sunday, bringing rain and strong winds to much of the country, especially in the east from Canterbury to Wairarapa."

Canterbury is right were the rally is.

Grrr....

The Rally is actually in Wainui which is across the bay from Akoroa, about an hour and a half from Christchurch, will see you there.

Weather wasn’t as bad as expected here in the North Island, so hopefully not too bad in the South Island for the NOCNZ rally.
You are not wrong about the weather previously. Attended the Burt Munro Challenge for the first time. Fantastic weather, almost too hot, even for Invercargill! Love those South Island roads, especially the west coast -paradise!
Please post some photos for those of us who couldn’t attend the rally.
Safe travels.

Thankfully the weather was not as bad as forecast down South too.
A bit damp on Summit Road on the day ride on Saturday, and a decent shower or two Nth of Kaikoura for those travelling yesterday, nicely rounded out with a slightly lumpy ferry crossing.
A good turn out at the rally, 60 or 70 i believe. Sorry i was a bit slack with photo's.

Found one, the lineup shortly before the official photo.
Centre stage are the oldest (1929 Big 4) and youngest (2104 961 Sport) bikes at the rally.
Others were largely Commandos of various types but also a couple of model 7's, some pre featherbed ES2's, a 19S special in a slimline frame.
Possm's absolutely immaculate 57 (or 58?) ES2 was a stand out.
