I just finished the instalation of a new Sparx alternator and solid state Reg/Rec and in the process I disconected and removed the Zenor diod, the capacitor and the assimulator including taping up all their wires and the grounds with them. I have a fully charged good battery but after hooking it all up I get NO lights, no turn signals , nothing etc etc...I have ground from the batt to the frame/ engine etc. Does anyone have a clue what ai should check I also rewired my mini turn signals if that matters. I'm clueless here as to where to start looking. Except for the gun to put a hole in my head with???????

Did you disconnect two brown/blue wires from the 2MC capacitor?

If so, then you probably need to connect those two wires together.

Something fundamental is amiss. Let the Alternator, stator and rec/reg unit feed the battery. Now let the battery feed the ignition switch and from that feed the system. It can really simplify things to think of these things separately.

If nothing else, this may give a differant perspective.

If you changed from pos earth to neg earth because of the new rec/reg then you would also have to make sure all the wiring supports that. Does your bike run?

Ugh. Never do more than one thing at a time. Put the gun to your head, best a .44 Mag.

Kidding. Check voltages to appropriate points, like coils, ignition, lights.

I always do more then one thing at a time, thats how you keep things interesting

I took all the wires off the capaceter. Do I really need to connect them togeather??? I have a multi meter but must admit some level of ignorance in how to test for currant to things like the ignition (I'm running a Boyer ) or the points etc.

Only join the brown/blue wires-do not connect the red wire.

NO, not ALL. umm, no disrespect intended but you should get some help from a friend with more electrical experience before you release the dreaded Lucas Smoke via a wiring error, you could easily fry your wiring harness

No lights after Sparx install???

No kidding. I have seen that smoke for sale before but allways felt like I had a good enough grasp on this stuff not to need it. Now I'm begining to think I should keep som on hand. Thank you L.A.B. I will connect the two Brown/blue wires only & report back.

When I installed my Podtronics, I pulled the old zener diode and cut the connecting brown blue wire..... after I did that, I had no power at all. Nothing. I didn't even try to start it...

I reconnected the blue/brown wire that was attached to the zener (I didn't connect it to the zener) and everything was back to normal.
