No 1 961 leaves the Factory

Norton Delivers the First Commando 961SE
29/03/2010
It’s been over 30 years since Norton last delivered a Commando, until now!
A great day for Norton as the first 961 SE Commando was handed over to lucky purchaser Jonathan Hewitt from Grimsby.
Jonathan showed great excitement as he picked up the keys to his brand new Norton Commando 961SE motorcycle from Norton CEO, Stuart Garner.

Norton is now building and delivering motorcycles with production levels set to rise throughout the year.

Stuart Garner Norton CEO said "this is a great day for Norton and everyone involved in producing the bikes, we thank our customers for the patience and confidence shown in Norton and look forward to many more motorcycles rolling out of our Donington factory. We are thrilled to be producing bikes once more and will continue to build Norton up, back where it belongs."

The saga continues!!! Who knows, maybe in the years to come we will be watching Norton being a force to be reconed with on the track again! If a Harley (sort of) could take a championship & Triumph could be a contestant, anything is possible. Heck even Royal Enfield has NEW bikes that as far as I know can run more than a few miles without the head bolts pulling out! All power to you Mr Stuart G. And I hope you love your new toy Roger.

And Holland! They have appointed a dealer there and he has one in his showroom

Be very Interested to know when you get yours Richard and what you think about it.
Next month tyhere's a road test by Alan Cathcart in Cl;assic bike guide, he's allegedly been putting some miles on one around Yorkshire (strange none of you guys have spotted it though?)

We expect a video of you picking your bike up. Pictures really can't convey the giddiness.

Oh, and ridding an old Brit bike in Mexico, where you really don't want to break down, now do you? Hope that doesn't come back to haunt you.

Well, it wouldn't be the first time I said, "Dang (or a similar word), I guess I deserve this."

You're right...I'd rather not break down here. Not because I'm worried physically but if I had to leave the bike at the side of the road, I wouldn't expect it to be there when I got back. But that happened to me in the States (TN) - bike quit, left it on side of road, walked maybe two miles at most to a gas station, came back, no bike. But heck it was Kawasaki so it wasn't a big deal! :)

Well, the good news is the new Nortons were designed in the US, right?

They were but according to the new Norton co the bike was completely redesigned "over there". I call bullshit on that one though.

I'll be more excited to see the CNW cafe bike over this new Norton thing.

My guess is that things were changed for manufacturing. Maybe one day we'll find out just how much was changed.

Like that old joke:

90% of Triumphs are still on the road.....

the rest made it home!

COOL!!!
I'm glad the name has survived the test of time.
At Norton's height it was a racing machine to contend with.
What's more fitting than its reintroduction in race regalia.
A new roadster like the new Triumphs would be less dramatic.
The guy w/ #1 is a lucky dude. 8)
