Awesome!!!
Whats the plan for securing the liners in the ali barrels and what will the liner material be?
Regards Mike

I can imagine you will use "your membership name" a few times on those heads.
Nice casting work.

The cylinders look fabulous John - will they be available in other capacities (880, 920)?

What quality assurance process do you run those new castings through before turning them loose?
Please don’t misinterpret, 5 axis CNC is as cool as it gets, just curious what you do from a point of confidence before you let them go.

Looking good, John. It'll be nice to have the heads available again, as well as some quality alloy cylinders.

Hey Mike
As mentioned above, there will be no liners. This is not a casting, but billet material. We played with Nikasil on some Maney alum cast cylinder. We pressed in billet alum liners and had them nikasil coated. It has worked great on 3 race bikes, 3 years on each engine with no replacement of parts and excellent leak down results. We could not nikasil the Maney cylinders with out the billet sleeve, because there are porosity problems with cast aluminum

Thanks John, sounds great cant wait to see the finished products.
Lets hope the world is back to semi normal after all the lock down and the NZ $ doesnt completely tank and your parts are very affordable in our part of the world!!!

The underlying word there is cast. If Manley barrels are sand cast as opposed to die cast, then it would be unsuitable for Nicasil coating. More than one manufacturer has made lots of alloy barrels that are Nicasil coated, Yamaha watercooled TZ s for instance.

I have some better examples for you. BMW started using Nicasil cylinder plating on their R-models from 1981 on. Moto Guzzi had a similar process and started applying this even earlier. These are of course pure air-cooled engines, just as our trusted Commando. However, suppliers to both makes use die-casting, maybe even pressure die-casting.

Oh those cylinders...just when I thought I had run out of jewelry to buy.
