I bought a commando 961 silver 2013 in 2018. What strikes me was the high oil consumption and irregular running. With reneuwing of two sensors it was a lot better. During the christmas holidays i disassembled the cylinder and pistons. The pistons have a lot of play in the cylinder, so new pistons. Does anyone know a daeler who has oversized pistons in stock, the factory in UK is closed deu to covid 19
greetings Chrit Kortooms

I have never tried to source aftermarket replacement pistons for the Norton 961 . I have aquired a new set of Norton 961 OEM pistons and barrel to match. This should be possible , now that you have parts in hand to copy etc.. Which has excessive clearance , the piston or cylinder. ? In my case , the barrel was slightly too big. There are many piston makers here in the USA as well. I also think that the barrels can be re-nikasiled . I assume you have the nikasil barrels. This is the path I will follow , once I have my used piston and barrels in hand .

I don‘t know much Tony, Ollie told me they use 90mm German made pistons, so I get that to be 1005cc.

Mahle ? And if those pistons are well designed they will weigh no more than the originals , maybe less .

Look on Ollies website,
I kicked him to place some of his parts. (very often)

Panetone
Kick him harder Panetone :D ! What percentage of the 961 (and other makes) ownership group is from the English speaking world? Is there a language choice option on the website? Maybe Ollie doesn’t want to grow his business any bigger than it is (genuine comment - this may be the case). Pity, I would like to read about what he has to offer. Not a criticism - just an observation with English still the most spoken language in the world (20% or so).

English would be great but cutting and pasting into Google Translate works well.

If you have a apple iPhone or iPad you can click on the top left corner and it gives you the option to select a language to interpret

Bingo Scott, spot on - I never knew that! Now I do.

Search out the site you require translating (in this case Thiel Motorsports)
Click on the ‘AA’ icon to the very left of the address bar and select ‘Translate to English’

Not sure if the facility is present for all websites, or outside of the Apple sphere of influence.

Hopefully this is read-able for the ones who can’t read the German version of Ollies site.

If someone want them and wants to arrange collection I have two early 961 barrels that have steel liners. They have been bored but not honed, so anyone with sloppy pistons may have a use for these.
