I have not been happy with the Smiths Speedo on my new Trident Special as the gearing is wrong and the reading vague and inaccurate ~

So after much research I bought a electronic GPS ~ yep ~ GPS Speedo ~ from Speed Hut.

I guess most have heard of boats using these but I have never considering the application to a motorcycle ~

I found a site in the USA that offers a great range ` and can be tailored to suit your specifications ~ including numerals , needles and colour ranges.

The challenge is that they state emphatically that their instruments are negative earth ! Additionally they say they are not water proof but are shower proof~ ?

(So I will simply carry a plastic bag and a elastic band ~ )

Hopefully competitors or these folks will build them as water proof as more motorcyclists request the same!

So after much debate the issue was down to these options.

- Change the polarity ~ to negative - This can be achieved with the aid of the Tri-Spark reg/ rectifier conversion. Although having spoken with Steve Kelly about this issue, Steve is not a keen advocate of reversing the polarity despite his offering diagrams for positive and negative earth for the Tri-Spark ignitions.)

- Run an insulated circuit with an a inverter or relayed circuit .

The latter was the one I have gone with, after a electronics expert and biker in Australia offered to build me a suitable electronics unit to fit in the back of the instrument pod.

So FINALLY I got the new GPS driven Speedo fitted up and tested it over the last several weeks ~

Excellent ~ Once it loads for the first time , there after it boots within a second of ignition.

The digital reads .. Compass bearing, kilometres, trip, standing quarter and 0-100, highest achieved Speed , among others ~

The thing is steady and no fluctuations ~ the 'chosen ' cobalt blue dash light is excellent ~

Okay . purely optemistic on the speed range, but the original Trident Smiths Speedo displays 150 MPH and this is as close a conversion as practial ~

Another effective bling ~ (and the Original-nazis roll over again in horror ! )

lol Matt

I have not gotten to that part just yet ~ after all one of my issues to date has been a dodgy cutch cable.. ( I strongly recommend not buying cheap cables.. does not work .. just buy the Venhill and stop struggling ..!) :D

Yet to really do any 'runs' as it were ~ had it only as far as 130 kmh peak !!

Om getting there 'slowly' ~ no pun intended ~

Nothing cheap works , that was the problem with the Japanese stuff , suspension ! weave all over the road .
Saw while at school on the long weekend holidays , a T150 do the Souther Motorway .Where it opened out at the bottom of the Bombay Hills , he dropped it down a few gears , and wound it out , up through the mountain GONE , the old boy had
the HR at 70 too , so mustve been well past the ton . Had been about alongside in the traffic from Otahoo . :D

"Waterproof" really suggests that it can be fully submerged as opposed to "splash proof" which means you could take it into the shower. Shouldn't be a problem for most motorcycles unless you are James Bond.

PS-It is really nice that they have made this as an analog meter. They are so much easier to read at a glance than digital. I wish the marine industry would figure this out. I discovered that my boat touches bottom at 4.1 feet the same day I discovered I couldn't see the decimal point with my sunglasses on!

Skyguyz

Only 8,000 revs??????????

If the needle has a stop I might bend it!!!
