Just picked up my first norton, a 1972 Fastback and would love to replace the tank and seat. I like the roadster tank but from what i can tell its shorter than others so was wondering what length cafe seat I should be looking for so theres no gap between the tank and seat.

Thank you!

Best café type seat for a Roadster tank IMHO is Corbin.

Here's mine:

New Norton owner! Seat/Tank question

I got mine from Matt at cNw: http://coloradonortonworks.com/

Everything I have read points to the Emgo being the Roadster tank to buy.
This is based on originality, quality of construction and cost.

To each his own...

DOES ANYONE KNOW THE MEASUREMENTS(LxW) FROM THE TANK(ROADSTER TANK) TO THE REAR OF THE SEAT HOOP?

Which tank? An original or the Emgo? I haven't seen an Emgo tank in person, but they may be slightly different.

The fiberglass tanks may be slightly different in length from the later metal ones, too.

Shouldn't you be getting the measurements of a stock seat?

The prices on eBay for original Roadster gas tanks (metal ones) have dropped quite a bit since the Emgo replacement tanks arrived on the scene. Or, they're down for some other reason. You might want to shop around a little bit, although the pickings on eBay are a little slim right now.

If you've already decided on the Emgo tank, wait until you receive it before making seat decisions, and then you'll be able to make your own measurements.

I am 5,000 miles away from my bike at present.

Hopefully someone else can assist with this.

As has been suggested by another poster, I think the length of the loop is irrelevant as it is very long. And the roadster tank is the shortest version. Therefore the length between tank and rear of loop will be far too much for your brat seat to cover it. If it did it would be more like a brat mattress....

Is there a connection between wanting the brat seat and shouting in UNDERLINED, BOLD, CAPITOL LETTERS when you don't immediately get what you want?

There is a difference, on my 70, I went from FG to original metal, different length as well as the metal tank is a bit wider up front so now my fork tubes hit on one side. The contact is not due to the extreme width difference, but a slight difference and my frame stop being poorly placed from the factory.

Having to add a nub or something onto the triple to limit the forks turning to that side.

Ah, the forum nanny. Offering no help but more than willing to message some bullshit just to get their post count up. Kudos to you. The shouting and underlining was due to what came off as snarky replies and pretty much just a general ignorance of what I thought was a clear question. All im asking for is a measurement for shits sake, thats all. Thankfully MichaelB came through with what I was asking for while EVERYONE else posted opinions. WTF?

since you are interested in measurements to the rear loop, after getting plenty of good relevant info, including links & pics, including related to this question you also posed, a stock or proper fit is irrelevant

Well in either case, do you happen to know the length/width a seat should be to fit properly?
& you are asking WTF???

might interest you, from one of many prior posts going to length

I suggest you calm down a little sir.

You received a lot of good info and answers to your questions.

And one 'tongue in cheek' jokey comment.

That's forum life isn't it?

This thread in no way provoked your WTF rant! Calm down, go with the flow, exercise a little patience and this forum will be invaluable to you if you are new to Norton's and intend to keep it.

There is no way I could have built my 'Blue Bomber' without the great input from the oft quirky, jokey and usually highly opinionated chaps on here!

i thought the s type seat, that's made to fit, might do the job and could also be easily thinned out if that look is of particular importance

the s type seat being a thinner flatter type base seat vs the newer stock roadster seat which is more rounded & thicker/plush,

tho there are apparently also minor variances mentioned with roadster tanks
