There's a new "Norton Commando" book available-written by Matthew Vale (forum member Matt01).

New Norton Commando Book

About the book
The Commando was the main bike in Norton's range from 1968, and was produced until the demise of Norton Villers Triumph in 1977. The bike featured the unique 'Isolastic' system that rubber-mounted the engine and protected the rider from the twin-cylinder's vibrations. The model range provided the rider with a choice of touring and sporting models, as well as offering special police machines and off-the-shelf production racers. Commandos feature strongly in today's classic scene, and offer excellent performance and spares availability, as well as a vast range of improvements and updated components.

Nice. I sent him some pictures of the early central oil tank (69/70) that he wanted about a year ago. Too bad I didn't ask for a complementary copy, cheapskate that I am.

Yes, I expect one of your 'S' oil tank photos is probably the one in the book, your avatar photo is in there too.

Ok, nice to have a new book out but...

a HI RIDER!?!?!?!

Not what I would consider the quintessential Commando model. No offense to any Hi Rider owners.

Congrats DogT, sounds like you're in print now! That is I"m assuming you are on the bike aswell?

I assume that he was asked if the pictures could be used.

Yes, I sent him the pictures to use, Matt asked me.

It's not the first time I've been in print, or my pictures either. The wifey is a retired photojournalist (the first woman) from the Washington Post, I've been a model several times. Not that I ever got anything (read $$$) from it.

Hope you all enjoy the book. The bike featured in the book came with hi-rider bars and I just happend to have a seat and tank, so I restored it as a Hi-rider - mainly because there are very few of them about now. As Keith said its currently an Interstate as the hi-rider tank sprang a leak, but I will probably make it into a hybrid roadster/Hi rider this summer.

Is it available in the States or somewhere that will ship? Amazon lists it, but avail. date is in April.

For those in the US, Amazon.com has the book listed for $23.07. This is apparently a pre-order with delivery on or after April 15th. FYI

The book is available in the US - my publishers use Motor Books International as their importer. So it'll take a little time to ship the first batch over there but as its available in the UK now I guess the first batch is on its way....

Mine was shipped this morning from Amazon in Luxemburg, they corrected their initial delivery date of end of April just a bit....
