Hi all - acquired a 1971 - 750 Commando last month from a dealer in the UK with no history. Unfortunately the Library at the VMCC is not available at the moment due to Covid so I thought I would post a picture & see if I could get any information from this forum

What I do know - The bike was repatriated to the UK in 2017 bought as part of a job lot from Denmark, it was UK registered & then sold at auction to the dealer that I purchased it from. The Denmark link may not be relevant as apparently they import a lot of bikes from the USA, the bike does however have a KPH speedo. The bike also has a permanently wired running light which might indicate Canada. Also when it arrived in the UK it had a nice ventilated primary chain cover that has been removed. I'd love to hear from a previous owner - Steve

Hi - thanks for the tip, tried both no results - serial number is 145599 - thanks again

Hi Steve
Two other possibilities are Andover Norton who hold some records and also the Norton Owners Club in the UK.
Both charge for the service.
Happy number hunting.

Nice looking Commando.
Your serial number is approximately March 1971. The Interstate came out in 1972, so probably a fastback or roadster originally.
The NOC do a basic records check for free if you are a member.

Canada is more likely than US as Canadian bikes would have KPH speedo. I did an Andover report for my ‘69 750 S. Pretty limited information compared to what I’ve gotten from the NOC records. It will tell you where it shipped from the factory.

Thanks for the comments & suggestions, I have purchased a copy of the records from Andover Norton & will get in touch with the NOC. Still hoping for a previous owner to pop up - Steve

Update - Andover Norton confirm that the bike was originally built as a Yellow SS & shipped to Long Beach California in May 1971
Had a rather nice ride down to AN earlier today for a few bits :) ...looks like the postponed open day is to be cancelled until next year

It seems to have morphed into something else over the years..

If you like the green Interstate look (it's not bad) you can keep it that way. But if it were me I'd be tempted to bring it back to the stock config.

Well perhaps until he has to live with the peanut tank...and the hilarious front mudguard. Which no doubt is why the forward stay is missing and the aft one incorrect.

True, but it'll be the only one at most Commando gatherings. Like a Hi-Rider... ;)
