Since I've made a post in the Steel Tank thread I thought I should post a intro. I purchased a 72 Commando and have been browsing this forum for information and found lots! My bike is in good shape however the clutch was very hard to pull. Yesterday I read through all the tough clutch threads and fixed the problem. Turned out to be bad routing and/or lack of lubrication. Took it for a test ride yesterday afternoon and was having such a blast I didn't realize I hadn't attached the liscence plate yet. Anyhow here are some pictures from when it arrived:

I have changed the bars and have a single seat as well. I am debating installing the fairing that came with it and ceramic coating the mufflers as the paint seems easily marked. I'll post some more photos when its all done.

Right on! And welcome aboard! Looks as though somebody has spent some time sorting the bike out. I hope it treats you well.

Welcome to the forum. That is a very nice machine, I really like the blacked out pipes.

SWEET looking ride? Is your tank fiberglass or metal ? welcome to these threads.Cj

Fiberglass tank - previous owner sealed it but it still makes me nervous.

Thanks for the warm welcome. The previous owner rebuilt old bikes as a hobby (as well as cars) and had to make room in his garage for his next project. This was the 3rd Norton he rebuilt so he built it to his tastes and obviously like the blacked out look. I like a little more the cafe look so it will morph a bit over time.

There appears to be a third braided oil line (it can be seen below the rear Iso. mounting resting on the swingarm pivot-not the breather pipe)?

Is that the return pipe from the oil filter housing to the tank? If so, then it would appear to have been routed in a rather unnecessarily tortuous path to get it to the tank when it only needs to go more-or-less straight up from the filter housing?

thx for having a detailed look and posting the picture. I'll try and figure it out tomorrow and report back.

Eyes of a Eagle L.A.B. & A mind like steal trap!. Nice bike Bulldogge & welcome to the party. In some ways your ahead of the Fiberglass tank game in that yours is sealed & you don't need to read twenty thousand posts & try to decide what to do. It's been done so just keep an eye on it and I would put two very good fuel filters in line just in case. Happy motoring. Glenn.

Welcome new Nortoneer!!!
I too enjoy the 72 model.
I like the braiding done on your bike.
As I replace my lines I'm moving to steel as well.
I started with the show look and now want the durability.
Bike looks great.
Lots of great help on the forum

You are correct as it is the return from the oil filter to the oil tank. He must have used a longer than required line.

Had some time (and parts) this weekend so I started.

Exhaust ready to go for ceramic coating (flat black). Should be back in a week.

Lighting is not good but those are Tommaselli Condor Clubman bars installed. Front turn signals were too big (long) and everything was pretty tight so I ordered some new ones with shorter stems.

Seat from UK (Burton Bike Bits). It took a while to arrive. Its just sitting on there for the picture and the white you see is a towel protecting the rear fender .
