I would buy two new slide for amal carburators 930.
On the web I see many vendors who write "cut way ...".
Well, i do not what means "cut way".
Please let me know what I should buy and if those are better zinc slides than standard.
In addition to slides to what should I pay attention to clean thoroughly the carburators?
Thanks for helping.

Piero,

The curved area at the bottom of the slide is the cut away. Look on the slide for a number (probably 3.5). This will be the cut away number for the slide.

Cleaning the idle circuit and setting float height are very important

Read and understand this

Look at Amal site for Premier Slides. If you have the money, a new set of premier carbs would be a good investment.

- Throttle Slides

The standard cutaway for 750 slides (throttle valves) is 3.0 and 3.1/2 for 850.

If you are buying new slides plus rebuild kits, new jets and new floats you might add up the cost and compare it to buying a complete new Premiere carb. I just bought a set off Jerry through the Access Norton store at a cost of 200 a piece and they are a working a treat. They come with an anodized slide and a removable pilot jet.

Second that emotion...it isnt worth renewing the carbs because you
are close to the cost of a new premmie. Doesnt make sense anymore.
You end up with an old body full of new bits and the body is likely worn
or out of round or both.

I do not know how old your carbs are, I would suggest first getting hold of a Telescopic bore gauge and measuring that various points the interior of the carb body to determine if they are serviceable or worn

My Amal are 930/300 right and 930/301 left, and have the standard slides marked 928, 3, (MB 3 the right, only 3 the left).
The main jet is 210 and Needle jet is 106.
Could be a good idea to buy two new sliders? in case is better to buy hard hanodized, zinc, standaed or ????
Thanks

" Cut Away " means where you decided to keep the original worn out amals and the slides rattled about so much in their bores that they fractured going through the engine and out the exhaust ,if you are lucky. Cut into bank account to avoid this scenario.

300 & 301 show the carbs are generic items assembled to a particular specification.

Do not confuse the MB (1,2,3,4 etc.) marking with the cutaway number. The MB number is a foundry marking and has no actual significance as far as slide identification or tuning is concerned.

We can help you and LAB is very knowledgeable on the commando. Look under the slide and you will see numbers and letters.
The stamped number (Imprint) is the one you need to see. The other letters and numbers will be embossed. (Proud)
These are the casting numbers (foundry marking).

You may get away with just renewing your needles, needle jets and new slides in pairs, as these tend to wear the most. Your main jets should never wear out. I would go with the anodized slides if you have to renew.
Now as others stated earlier it might be better to purchase a complete set of AMALS… than try to fix the old units. You must check the wear between the bodies and slides. Raise the slide up about the thickness of you little finger from the fully closed position. Wiggle the slide back and forth in the body. If this is excessive your bores in the body and the slides should both be replaced.
The most wear is on slides and bores on Amals in the 932 series between the 1972 Combat and later 850 models. Not so bad on your 930’s
You must check yours. Then you can make a good decision. (Spend the least amount of money to accomplish your goal).

I think I've said this before. I got the anodized slides for my 14K mile Amals. Improved about 80-90%. If I spent the money again I'd go for either new Premiere or re-bore and brass sleeved slides. No chrome, it comes off into the cylinder from what I've heard.

I have been using, in a another bike (Not a Norton!) a pair of Teflon coated slides, when they wore after 50K I just brought another pair.
Where you can get these for a Norton, I have not the faintest idea

If their Amals, what difference does it make. Bernard, are they Amals?
