Hi Jim

How much is the K&N pancake air filter, I had a set on my old Amals for over 30 years and never had any problems with them, as long as they get serviced they way they should, the backing plate is no problems with my bike as like yours my 850 is in a Featherbed frame and there is plenty of room behind the carbies.

Jim, will these by chance fit Keihin FCRs, or if not, do you have any that do? Tx - BrianK

Brian,

I bought a Keihin FCR (Sudco) kit and it came with a pair of K&N Filters. The K&N part number is RC-1820. They look like the XS filters pictured above. I assume anyone that carries K&N can get these.
Summit Racing has these:

RC 1820 is correct for the Keihin FRCs . Those flow at 195 CFM

Someone posted on here a measurement for a K&N filter that will work with the stock ham can setup but the screen needed to be cut down for it to fit.
I like the stock look. Does anyone remember the filter size from K&N?

When I received and installed my JS flatsides from Jim I installed K&N Pod filters RU-0982. Though a tight fit they have worked out very well. I use K&N filters in all my vehicles. Including my 11 second 69 Dart, Thruxton and ATVs and my class 8 Dodge Race truck(sadly destroyed in the San Felipe 250 during a prerun of the course. Cactus jumped out at 90 mph and I barrell rolled 8 times).
I just loosened up the air cleaner backing plate so there was some play and made sure the attachment bands were tight when I was done.

You can see the K&N RU 0982 here

They are the same size and have the same flow as the XS filters but are a little more expensive

I didn't get the XS' because of the chrome ends falling off on multiple Triumphs we have placed them on. Combined with the heat and vibration the chrome cap just falls off.

This problem is usually the result of ethanol fuel softening the glue on the cap. I have seen that problem with some brands of air cleaners. You are probably talking about an older version of the product that did not have alk proof glue. I have just tested the XS filters I have in stock and they are alk proof.
