This is a negative ground diagram for wiring a Pazon and Podtronics I produced from the commando manual. Please look over for mistakes.
I removed most of the interpol wiring that I could for simplicitie's sake. This will eventually be handy for the "electrically challenged".

Can't see anything in the way of a voltage regulator there Seaguy???? The Zener has cathode to case in a -ve earth system and can't be used in a +ve earth unless you insulate it from the chassis and still provide some form of heatsink.

Edit. Beg pardon, had another look. The Podtronics unit is both rectifier and regulator yes?

That's what they say Dave. It is probably a bridge with a souped up 7812 regulator. I left out the zener and swapped polarity on the cap. It probably smoothes the dc some.

Oh, ok Rich interesting, might look further into them.
Schematic looks just fine to me. Like the external point for power pick-off and charging. Wish I'd done that when I did my own loom. Go for it!

Hmm... For what it's worth I'd go with a low drop-out series-pass reg myself; a reference, opamp and p-ch mosfet.

Electronic rectifier / regulator units use thyristors (SCR's) for voltage regulation. Pulse width control. Far more durable than any series pass circuit. That's also why some manufacturers recommend resistor plugs or caps - ignition noise can trigger the SCR's and overcharge your battery.
