Guys/gals, I need an Old Britts cast alloy tail light that they manufacture. It fits right over the tail loop unlike the similar looking Lucas ones.

That is the last thing I need to finish of my MKIII rebuild and Old Britts is out of stock and won't have any for another year!!!

If anyone has a regular or polished one you want to sell, please let me know asap as I really need one. I can't send my tims off to paint until I get that light as I need to elongate an existing mount hole.

To be clear, this is the tail light that Old Britts manufactures themselves.

Thanks.

I don't have one, but I think it's just a generic repop Lucas-style taillight that he does some cutting on. See ebay item 370170319044 for example.

Maybe you could buy one of those, cut a couple of slots in it, and polish it up yourself...

Isn't Old Britts up and running yet? Their site says the 16th.

Boy!, some how I missed this line:

"That is the last thing I need to finish of my MKIII rebuild and Old Britts is out of stock and won't have any for another year!!! "

Guess I didn't make too much sense with this post...

Debby:

It's not a Lucas repop. It's cast at a foundry in Oregon. Nice piece, solid and well made. It was a pain to sand and polish though.

It does take a lot of effort to bring one up to shape. The first one I got from Old Britts I sent back. Too rough. Had some deep voids. I would of had to remove a lot of metal to eliminate the voids. They quickly sent another. It sure beats replacing the stock one every 10,000 miles.

I think this item might work for you. It is a genuine Lucas assembly and better looking, IMHO, than the "Lucas Type" sold by many. Ebay item 280323317775

or this link:

It is a late 60's BSA unit that has a cutout for a large frame loop. I used one from a 67 Triumph on my Commando and had to open the loop area a bit, but I think the BSA one might fit over as is. Probably won't go cheep though.

Good luck.

Look for a Bates taillight assembly on eBay or at swap meets. I bought one a few years ago and it is almost identical to the Old Britts casting. I assume that Old Britts used a Bates housing as a model for theirs.

The Old Britts ones are different.

Time is of the essence as I need to get my fenders out for paint asap so I can't really start looking for something. This bike has to be on the road by the end of April. It's been 2 1/2 years and I need to start riding the MKIII or I'm going to lose it.

It's my fault for not buying one sooner but I assumed they would simply have one since it's one of their own products. I was wrong.

I see that Old Britts has replenished their supply with thirty eight of the Bates style tail lights. Price $115 rough and $175 polished. Get them before all the hoarders do!

Re: Needed ASAP! Old Britts cast alloy tail light. Please he

Ella told me last week that they returned the shipment to the casting vendor (too rough) and were expecting to be back on line with polished parts to sell by the end of March. This may fit your tight schedule, Coco. I'm on their backorder list; you may want to do the same.

I got a polished one from them in the mail last week. Maybe they gave me one of the few good ones since I've been asking them about these every few months for that last 2 years. Squeaky wheel gets the grease I guess.

Coco.

Good to hear that you got your light fairing in time; I'm happy for you. I'm in no hurry; my cracked fibreglas fairing is ugly but servicable, and I'm in the midst of a NW winter, raining or snowing every day.
