My starter switch on my 75 mk3 is bad. I jumped a wire from the hot white wire in the right hand controls to the solenoid and was able to turn the starter. New cnw starter, solenoid and wires. I am taking apart the old switch tomorrow to see if it's fixable but I'd rather replace it because of my limited skill level. Checked Oldbrits, did'nt see anything and I know they were limited production. I checked 40 pages of starter/switch threads here and decided it would be quicker just to post this. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Stock switch?

I've disassembled, cleaned and reassembled mine. They are very cheaply made and quite delicate. Nevertheless, it is not rocket science to bring them back to original function if you take your time. I'm sure the repro Sparx units are quite satisfactory especially if maintaining original look is important, but if I were going to replace my switch I think I would be going with an upgrade Japanese switch as sold by Colorado Norton Works. Original used switch units show up on eBay now and then as well. Hey! Fix it. It's not that hard.

The stock switches weren't on my bike when I purchased and were in bad shape. I installed K&S switches, seem to be good quality, very similar to oem Japanese bike switches. You will have to figure out the wiring to adapt.

Yes it's the original switch. I'm going to take it apart today and try to fix it but I"ll be buying a new sparx switch. Thanks for the info.

Lazyeye6 was right it was monkey simple. Drill out the rivet seperate the hard fiber from the plastic, not hard if you have cut the rivet completely off. The action part of the switch is a metal band with a contact point on another hard fiber contact point. I sanded both contact points with 160 grit till clean. Starter still wouldn't turn , so I pulled the multi plug connector in the headlight coming from the right hand control unit handled bar. The red white wire connector was hot on one side nothing on the other. That is the one that hits the soleniod. Stuck a probe in there and the starter turned over. The male side of the red/white was slightly shorter than all the other elec studs.. ground it off so I could push it further out the connecter. It made full contact now the starter works. I am looking for those small male electrical connectors so I can replace this and other connections. Just relaying this info for others who might have this problem. It's a little I can contribute to this forum.
