Hi, Looking for someone that has a close serial number to 303780 . I need to figure out the month build date on my Norton, the data plate was ruined years ago by the fairing bracket. It should be something "month" ; year 1973 belonging to a 850 Commando.

it looks like its between 04/73 and 09/73 and I'm guessing about 06/73 :?:

I'm 3045xx and plate says May 1973 so you're earlier. I was doing some research on this the other day as I pulled my original Lucas headlight bucket for re-chroming. It has a sticker inside that says 19 and then 73. My mechanic says that means the 19th week of 1973 which is probably the second week of May. RatedSpeed, could you please provide the 4th digit of your s/n if you don't mind? If mine is May and yours is July then that's a production rate of between 400 to 1,000 units per month depending on that digit. I'm guessing it's an 8 or a 9. If production started in January at a rate of around 1,000/mo, that would place my s/n accurately. Jimbo, yours is almost certainly April 1973. Does anybody else have that sticker inside the headlight bucket?

Ommief,
I'm 3051** The headlight bucket sticker is 6 73 Which is probably irrelevant because the buckets most likely
get picked off a rack in no particular order.

Interesting. If mine was the end of May and yours the beginning of July that's only 600 units per month. If mine was beginning of May and yours the end of July that's a rate of about 200 units per month. No matter how you figure it, it certainly seems as though the production rate slowed down by the summer of 1973.

If you take off the LH Z-plate the date should be stamped on the triangular gusset behind the rear motor mount bracket on the frame.
This may or may not be the same month as the original number on the VIN plate, but it's not going to be far out.

really? I did not know that. Is the VIN stamped somewhere besides the plate?

It only seems to apply from '73 onwards, but as ever, I'll stand to be corrected
