Need advice on first purchase.

Hi Guys,
I am new here and am starting to really be interested in the Norton, BSA, and Triumph world. Quick question for you guys. Since I am new, which bike would you recommend for someone like me. I really like the Atlas style bike. Is there anything that is similar but a little easier to find? I don't have a very large budget right out of the gate either.
Really appreciate any thoughts and opinions.

Nortons tend to be towards the top of the heap as far as common classic bikes go, price wise. (?).
Not having a decent budget is going to restrict you somewhat.
And leaves nothing in reserve for all those niggling things that crop up on 40 or 50 year old bikes,
that you didn't budget for.
Not to mention that plenty of 'restored' bikes will likely need some repairs and fixing too.

BSA A65 twins seem to go for maybe lower prices than most, and likewise scrappy Triumphs also.
Be prepared to do some wrenching to get them in good order....

As a former Atlas owner, I would advise against getting this model, I was glad to get rid of mine.
The 750 engine had been bored and stroked too far from the original 500 Dominator .
As there are so many different models to choose from, it depends on what part of the globe you hail from and the availably of models closer to home as the cost of transportation will also be an expense to consider.

The Atlas is easy to find if you are in the United States, they sold a lot of them here.

Soon, a few forum members that own and ride Atlas Nortons will chime in here and tell you how much they enjoy them, listen to them and get one for yourself. Listen to the people who have current and first-hand experience riding them.

I have ridden Norton featherbed Dominators for a couple of decades, the 650cc ones, which have the same stroke as the Atlas and just a little bit smaller bore and I am having a blast. The 750 is better than the 650 these days because parts for it are super-easy to find.

Don't waste your time getting into the hobby slowly, get your dream bike now before they do get rare or too expensive. Right now you can find a nice project Atlas very reasonably.

It basically depends on what type of riding you want to do on your bike, if you want to cruise along at 55 mph the Atlas will do the job very well at the added expense of more fuel consumption to say, a smaller twin that will return as much as 10+more mpg, a consideration you have to take into account if you want to watch the pennies.
I purchased my Atlas and could never be happy with the high vibration factor that this engine gave at running a constant 70mph.
