I rarely need navigation on my CR as I’m usually out chasing my mates, with their obscene horsepower advantage, around our usual stomping grounds. The few times that I have, I’ve made do with setting the route on my phone and listening to the nice lady via Bluetooth - why are nav systems always voiced by a woman anyway!!

Not ideal obviously, with GPS best viewed on screen of course. I’ve opted for a Quad Lock system with steering stem mount. Case is good and strong, if a little bulky and the mount seems very secure and is quick and easy to use. No 12v socket of course for charging the power hungry iPhone when using nav.

What GPS systems/power solutions have the ‘brains trust‘ opted for? Interested in all, but particularly in any CR type solutions - less real estate of course!

PS. Just wonderin‘ if somebody will casually insert the fitting of a supercharger to the 961 into this navigation thread? What are the odds? :)

Just be wary of vibes - i mounted a quadlock to my DRZ and on day one the phones image stabiliser died, it is now useless for photo's.
Quadlock have an anti vibration mount which is supposed to solve that problem - i now know. :(

Beeline make a nice little unit which bluetooths to an app and the GPS chip on your phone, will flatten your phone on a whole day run unless you have backup but otherwise works nicely.

Compliments on your hydraulic reservoirs, very nice.

That triple-sux, as I have also just fitted one to my DRZ - have’nt ridden it yet - and to the KTM! Luckily the phone is an old IPhone 7, so not too concerned about the camera. But I had read about this occurring with newer phones which would ruin your day. I’ll look at the Quadlock vibration mount thanks, sounds promising for when I change the phone. Would like to sneak a 12v USB adapter in there somewhere, but there is very limited space.

Thanks, pleased with the change, just need to re-align the clutch reservoir slightly. The original was leaking. Rizoma make awesome stuff.

Nice arrangement Stephen. The only point I’d raise is the location, that’s surely where the supercharger boost gauge would normally go... ;)

Lol, two whole hours into the thread - that’s longer than I thought it would take :D!

Just to wander off topic for a moment, hope you are enjoying the DRZ. i fitted a seat concepts comfort XL seat and an ATC wide ratio gearbox and then did 4500km on mine over Christmas. Definitely the little engine that can, and thats without compressor assist.

Nice setup. Since getting the bike I seem to have lost all ability to remember routes as I rely on satnavs now! I get lost so often I'd get angry if I didn't enjoy riding the bike so much ;)
I'm turning a couple of bungs to go into the inner clip-on ends to stop water ingress and serve as a mount for a standard Garmin on a simple cradle. Basic waterproofing but no great loss if it gets wrecked and I have to buy another off ebay.

Looks like you need a left hand thread bolt for the right reservoir mount.
I bought a standard LH hex head, drilled the centre as big as I could then cut off the section of thread, turned the thread off my RH thread button head bolt and locktited the LH piece of thread onto it.

Duhh Nigel - the boost gauge would mount onto the fairing support. Next to the NOX gauge.

Gents, it’s well worth checking out Ram Mounts (link below). They do a vast array of clever sat nav / mobile mount solutions inc ones that screw discretely into mirror mounts, reservoir tops with built in mounts, all sorts.
Here’s some of mine:

In general I retired my 2009 (or 08?) Garmin Zumo 550 / RAM bar mount and bought a TomTom Rider 550, combined with intercom its hard to beat.
I machined my own mount to mount it in a non bar location.
The added features made it an easy choice over a phone (which the Intercom links to anyway)

Off topic is ok when you’re talking about ‘the little engine that could’! My DRZ is a disgrace, or rather I’m a disgrace! I’ve had it for 16 years and it’s only done 7000 km! Immaculate and every mod known to man (except the wide ratio)! I have a long list of reasons for this gross underuse, all of which sound almost credible! Long story short I had a ‘big off’ on it and smashed myself up. Kept trying to get back into it and then moved, repeatedly - military family! Gonna go back to the dirt some day so can’t bring myself to sell it. See, I told you, disgraceful miss-use of an awesome do it all dirt bike  !

PS. How good is that wide ratio?

I’m with you Clive, for an ex-military guy my sense of direction is shocking. I’ve been known to get lost before exiting the car park! Using the inner clip on ends on the C/R, clever stuff. There’s space there to get a mount in of some sort. Lets see some pics when you get it done. Then I may blatantly copy it:D!

Refuse to give up on ebay. I’ve ordered three seperate versions of LH thread bolts for the brake resevoir mount. All have arrived (weeks later) RH thread!!! Patience, virtue and all that - I’ve ordered some more! Refuse to be beaten by the Chinese!!!

Thanks for posting us those pics of your ball-end Nigel.

I have a mag from last year at home with some reviews of phone mounts. I'll dig it out tonight. Seem to remember one of the best value/performance was;

Stephen asked "Why are all satnavs voiced by women?"

I'm not familiar with the Garmin units, however the choice of voice type is quite extensive in the TomTom.
As I recall, there are about a dozen to choose from. There is UK English in male and female, US English in same and even Australian English in both male and female. Sadly no Canadian English eh?
I tested all of them and found that with my faulty hearing, Tim of the UK came through loud and clear, even on the M1 at 80 mph.
That was with my old TomTom Rider 2. I recently upgraded to a new TomTom 550 and was pleased to see that UK Tim was on tap for the new GPS as well.
Have you tried the menu for voice selection?
I'm happy to listen to a female voice for direction, but hearing loss generally knocks out the high frequency first.

Some sat navs allow you to upload the voice of Homer Simpson, Basil Faulty, etc. They’re very funny... for about 5 minutes!

I do believe the idea of a calm female voice is that it’s less likely to encourage stress and aggressive behaviour.

Although my cynical side says it’s because men find it much easier to just ignore: “Yes dear, of course dear, indeed dear” !!

Or, if you’re from Yorkshire: “ye’ duck... ye’ duck... ye’ duck”...

Rely on Satnav for work, either Central London or deepest darkest Dorset or similar.... But never have the voice on.
That's van though....

My first experience with a satnav was in the UK in 2007.
A few weeks before shipping the bike to the UK for a month of touring there, I ordered a TomTom Rider 2 and had it shipped to the VOC Spares co.
As a favour they held it for me.
Just riding the bike from the Manchester airport to the SparesCo in Lymm was a bit of a nightmare. I used the map for that and had to stop about every mile or so as the street names kept changing!
I mounted the TomTom, read the quickstart menu then used it to ride diagonally across Manchester, UKs 4th? largest city. This was 2up plus full luggage, Big Top box, two large panniers plus two dry bags.
For the most part I just listened to and followed the audio instructions as my eyes were busy watching the fast moving traffic. It seemed very fast to me as I was on the opposite side of the road from home.
It worked out fine, TomTom Tim found our address with ease and there weren't any mishaps .
What an invention !
Made for those UK roads. Pretty handy at home too.
