Just got my Yamahaha front master cyl. assembly from Mikes xs 650 site and it looks like my braided stainless brake line is setup for Norton master cylinder 3/8 fine thread UNF threading.Stock Norton caliper. Who or where to go in Toronto or elsewhere to changeover the M.C.fitting end to metric ? A 45 degree banjo fitting bend here would be the way to go . Ideas /leads ? Peter.

Maybe try Dennis Kirk or ask Mike XS for one? I think the thread pitch are so darn close the stock bolt would work?

Yes Tim ,darn close ,the fitting will thread in easily to about half way only then tighten up. Tryed it and brake fluid would leak out and of course I dont want to overtighten it and risk damaging the Metric aluminum threads of the master cylinder itself. Teflon tape ? What would be the size of this Yamaha m.c. thread anyways ,it came with a bolt to attach an angled brake line fitting.

I'm going to face this on Peel soon, fitting a Honda m/c to Lockheed caliper so my plan is to contact the brake hose vendors in cycle magazine ads for custom hoses and fittings.

N.brake fitting changeover to metric question

Yes Steve ,there must be some humanoid out there who has fitted a Japanese m.c. to a line going to stock Norton brake. When you think about it all that is required is an angled banjo fitting that would screw into the Norton threaded end of line ,3/8 fine UNF,at the master cylinder end of things of course. The caliper end would remain unchanged. Peter

I've done a bunch of them. I take my two brake hoses to my local hose guy and he morphs them for me. It's all black magic and secret potions.

...actually, I think it involves simply cutting and soldering.

Grandpaul, looks like I will be searching the Toronto area for a capable brake line shop that will saw off the british fitting and fit a metric end with banjo fitting. Yes I will consult the black magic group and secret potions group and as usual will use THE FORCE good or dark side or at least they will to change things. Every line I have seen on other Norts leads to a non-stock brake caliper arrangement so an easy to obtain thing for them .

When I did mine I used flared fittings, and adapters for each end with the proper threads. If I remember corectly I got it all at oldbritts.

If it is a genuine Yamaha master cylinder, the thread is 10mm X 1.25. Magura, Brembo, Nissin are usually 10mm X 1.0.

If you cut off the end of your braided line that screws into the Norton master cylinder you can fit an olive for the banjo. Instructions are on the Old Britts site. Then using the bolt with the proper thread to match your master cylinder just screw it together.

Alternatively you can choose the proper length hose and fittings from the Goodridge catalog and make up a completely new one. I usually eliminate the short steel tube when I do this.
