Wes my '71 riding and winter boredoom reliever pointed out this mystery to me yesterday on way to see Hobbit movie - how or what is going on to hold the barrels on? Appears to be a signature cycle in Kenny Cummings NYC facility.

URL source of the the views and plenty more other dream machines gearhead creations. Don't ask about the coffin bird tank on who did it and who's bird.

It's an alloy cylinder with 850 style through bolts on the sides. You can see the two bolts on each side that run from the top of the cylinder down into the crankcase. You can also see the nuts for the normal short studs front and rear, if you look carefully.

Those brazed fillet joints are a thing of beauty.

I said the same thing to myself when I saw that picture.

I didn't know there was a Hobot Movie :D

I think those brazed fillet joints are done using gas flux (in the acetylene).

Maybe we shoild be asking if those welds have been bronze welded, judging by those neat fillets.
Manx frames look somewhat like that when blasted clean.

A good TIG welder could produce welds like that too....

Give the man a cigar... silicon bronze TIG welding filler material. :)

Silicon bronze in deed. Not sure about TIG, may likely be gas weld. Frame is a Colin Seeley Mk2 by Roger Titschmarsh and was made a few years ago. You can see this same bike dressed out with black and gold pinstripe at http://WWW.NYCNorton.com. The engine is a 1,007 cc Norton with Steve Maney bits and Jim Schmidt bits. Gear box is a TTIndustries Extra Heavy Duty five speed with a kick start. Engine has a Megacycle N480 cam, 44mm intake valves, 39mm intake ports, 40mm Kiehin flat slide pumpers. Lots more. It is a registered street bike. Started at 12.6:1 compression ratio but we had to tame it down to around 10.5:1.
As shown above, the bike was loaned to an up and coming artist and it was shown at Art Basel in Miami this December. Alloy work is by an old friend and awesome craftsman by the name of Dick Gambino at WWW.gambinometal.com.
I rode it around a bit at Barber Vintage Festival. Crack the throttle and the front wheel is off the ground. Best way to describe it is when you see the demise of Wallace on the rack - it rips your arms out.

IMO, definately TIG........ oxy can/will put tooooooo much heat into the frame = distortion.. Beautiful welding all the same.. "Artisifer"

Sil-Phos Brazeing Rod . Even I can do a weld like that . :D for an inch or two , anyway :( ,

That craftsman seems very talented .

Actually, I went and checked and..........the tubes are joined by hand Bronze welding with oxy-acetylene, including a gas-fluxer, and Sifbronze 101 Manganese Bronze filler.

One difference between TIG and gas is that TIG is generally a higher temperature whereas gas is lower and more dispersed.

My understanding here is that the Si-Pho-Bronze bonds (akin to brazing or soldering) whereas welding (ex TIG) fuses. Thus higher temperatures are required for welding. I recall the tubing is a T45 and "I have heard" that the Chromoly in the states is more tolerant of higher heats thus the use of TIG. Could also be due alleged bad fume class rating of the Si-Pho-Bronze weld. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable can chime in here before I get in too deep.

As for Dick Gambino, those with time can browse the Jockey Journal to see a little bit more at http://www.jockeyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63234
