Well, I just lost the second of my two dogs (her sister left me 3 months ago)
They were 14 - but it doesn't make it any easier.
The vet came around as she was resting in the shade of her favourite tree - people should be able to go that way.
I'm a bit lost without that enthusiastic welcome home.

I think one of the greatest aspirations is "I wish to be the person my dogs think I am"

Sorry to hear this kind of news mate . Some days ( and they are getting more frequent) I prefer the company of dogs to that of certain humans . I’ve always said that there are only two problems with dogs.
1) You get too attached to them
2) They don’t live long enough
I’ve lost a few myself. My current one is thirteen but fortunately apparently healthy.
I hope you heal quickly.

Yes to all of the above.

However, you seemed to miss ‘stubbornness’ from your list !

Hey ! My 2 English Bull Terriers were sweet , Punch & Jingles would allow our children ages 6 , 4 to walk them to the corner for ice cream , maybe a bit stubborn when strangers in our house/yard , actually another story altogether … both passed in my arms and I was reduced to tears , sure do miss them …. In fact my daughter’s fermentation business is Punch & Jingles , guess we all miss them ….

Rob, what do you train your dog to do? For instance, I train my boy Tyrion in obedience and rally. Both are dog sports in the AKC and UKC. Or are you talking about basic manners? Just wondering.
