Good day folks, thought I'd start a rebuild thread as a way to introduce myself.
I'm a recent addition to the Brit bike scene, been antique harley guy for bout 20 years but always had Norton on the brain since the first chopper I ever saw at 5 yrs old was an 850 Commando with crazy extended fork and dual rectangular headlights. Well I'm not doing that but I found a basketcase 850 Commando this spring and thanks to some lockdown time I started to reassemble this ol girl. Loose plan is to make it look relatively stock but I like to fabricate stuff and will add some personal (cheap) touches to make it work!

This might take a bit, so I'll post some pics and keep adding.

It was pretty much in bins, motor built but out of frame, wheels/tires/tins included. I flew to Vancouver island to pick up my son's car and drive it back to the interior, picked up the basket just west of Victoria, shoehorned it into the car.

preaching to the choir here but damn what an incredible looking motor...and the fact they stuck with the pre-unit construction like my old harleys...ahh my heart

Excellent. I have started on my project as well, but without the basket. ;) Looks like you have a great start! Since I am only starting with a matching frame/case I'll be building up the top end with 850 parts. Looking forward to your build. All the best.

Thanks gents, all advice appreciated, live and learn.

I like to ride and camp in the mountains, often on poor roads...simple finish work is best for my bikes. So started to work on tank and side panel painting.

You'll be sad to know that the "Commando" decals on the sidecovers DO NOT align with the top of the sidecovers. They need to be aligned ON THE BIKE, sat on level pavement. Otherwise, they'll come out like this...
