Is there anybody runs a Commando front mudguard with the mud flap fitted. I do I think it makes sense in our inclement weather .

Mud Flap

Love my mud flap!

Peel had 3, or 4 if ya count the one over the exposed chain sling between rear guard and the primary shield lip so nil over spray on miles of juk. The 3rd one is hung at front of rear mudgaurd to shield the rear cradle AMC box swing rm pivot area. Grime can still get thrown past and sucked behind front flap to cake on cases so dirty bikers also fit a splash guard, aka skid plate which very few time ever actually skidded over objects. Take it off for rallys to avoid eggs.

Us few winter grim truckers love our mud flaps as no vintage prim fair weather cafe's to even see us to sneer at. Guess what next Peels 3 flaps will sport?

I've always had the front mud flap on mine, it does keep a lot of the muck off the engine and crankcase etc.

I was in conversation with a guy who said he liked to run mud flaps on his Bonnie as he reckoned it stopped a fir bit of debris hitting the bike and his (recently sold) Honda Valk oil filter was directly behind the front wheel and it looked like it was peppered with an air gun. Mud Flaps are a effective method of keeping things neat.

,looks like the 72bat bike is getting the Mud Flap fitted for extra protection and I think it will set off the Morad rims nicely.

Yes I do on my Roadster, came with it when I bought , though no need to change it

Ok for those man enough to ride in yuk there are decisions to make if not just using what was one it or fit first one ya see, size and shape and material. I like the bell bottom rubbery kind in front and leather non flaired on rear, both ends of rear mudguard. Little reflectors on the corners are an nice trucker touch and help a bit to hold down at speed. My P!! rear coverage ended with the small fiber seat so sprayed my back side on commutes til I mounted tag longways downward. Rear flap could have running lights to be seen better through the mist.

makes a lot of sense for stopping stonechips
Didn't really like the look so just use layers of black gaffer tape to avoid chips on the front iso and lower frame
There is one on the back which is a bit nuts but I will get around to the front at some point so gravel roads etc aren't such a worry

Knew there was some reason they aren't so common other than aesthetics
They just don't suit the streamline appearance somehow
Might stick to the tape
Thanks

For my part aesthetics are important as the art of the motorcycle. No mudflaps or fork gaiters for me.

Flap certainly ctaches most the pebbles splash but enough get through can definitely pecker engine front to non factory texture so consider a skid plate. Peels out of alu, Trixie steel Norton part numbered. Once in a while a walnut size stone somehow hits my shin like someone threw it yet can't understand how it got knocked that acute an angle up but dam can.

An annoying little issue mine have mounting under 'fender' instead of outside is the seam collects yuk that covers rear of flap too. Just a visual thing I always want to rub off so consider a sealant there if not wearing underwear over pants look.

Oh yeah if ya saw tooth the edge it helps streamline.

If I don't use a mudflap on the front fender I have mud and spruce needles stuck to the front engine mount and spread across the bottom of the case. That is a lot uglier than having a mud flap!

Like that rack and I'd like one just like it but the one in the middle photo is probably the only one I'd have any chance of getting these days
Any idea where I could get one?

Hehe jed, its those 2 lovely long struts that hold up Peel's rack that rev's my motor up.

Fair point but I think a good mud flap is like the tail on a racehorse , gaiters just make the bike look more black and tactile and feminine , less surgical . Kinda like when your a young lad in the pony club and you get chased by the lassies in their black boots and jodhpurs and the hit you with their horse whips. Aye its sore but there are worse things in life.

Front mud flaps on Commandos can cause handling problems apparently: commando-pulling-the-left-t796.html#p5076

Mud flap "fell off" and handling improved, probably do better without pilot and ran bike by remote control.
