There is something which really makes me laugh, it is motorcyclists' egos. Yesterday my brother and I were talking to a 20 year-old kid who has been road racing a T250 Suzuki for a while. We were discussing ways to improve it. While we were talking the kid said 'I've got nothing to prove' to which I replied ' Bullshit! - if that was the truth you wouldn't be getting on the bike.' So we had lots of laughs, however ego is a serious issue. If you don't lose most of it quickly wnen you start racing, it can mean serious injury. I was looking at the locked thread lower down in this forum - ego is there big-time. I love watching the kids coming off the circuit after road racing, they still have the wild-eyes on. Our poor pit lady got upset at some of them. It is a real hoot. Motorcycling is so good.

If I do a search for acotrel and "my Seeley " , I get 517 matches .
Acotrel + " my bike " = 1473 matches .
How is thàt for motorcyclist ego ??

( and that for someone who is too scared to ride a motorcycle on a public road ..)

Yup, BIG Egos. None bigger than Phil Yates pub pioneer . And you know what pioneers get, arrows up their arse! Lab(life's a bitch).

I didn't say 'I told you so' to one of my friends when he almost killed himself because of his ego. He is a multi-millionaire ex-racing car driver who was at the top in the 80s. After the divorce and losing his car, decide bike racing was an attractive option. So at age mid-50s started riding an F750 MV, then bought a superbike to go racing. There were about 5 of us in all who gave him the same warning. What he did in his first race is something I've had nightmares about doing. Went over Lukey Heights on Phillip Island grabbed an opportunity big time, and lost the front end. Had the ride in the air ambulance, in hospital the nurse stuffed the oxygen up and almost turned him into a vegetable, then the golden staph got into his smashed arm and ribs. Now he has a plate in his back. I got really pissed off with him, there was no way he was ever going to listen to me, and I hate being so close to seeing one of my mates die. Been there already.
If you race you usually lose your ego in the first crash until you become competent and gain confidence, then it all starts over again.
