The sharp eyed will spot the stud bar used for the gear linkage rod, also the other gear levers from various machines. I still havn't found the ideal lever. I could make one, but using one from an other bike saves a lot of work. Just finding the right one! The one fitted is for a GSXR1000. 05-06
Took the bike for a spin to Seaways cafe today as a first test. A little too much travel at the pedal and it could do with tucking in a bit more as my foot catches the pedal arm. After a cuppa i spent ten minutes looking at all the gear levers on the bikes parked up, spotted one on a Kawasaki that looked promising!
The stud bar will be changed for a stainless rod once i,m happy with them.

Very nice set up, you done a mighty job, its like anything you make there will always be some improvements or fine adjustments, anyway well done.

very nice Peter. One question; I was wondering why you made the footpegs pivoting. Did you just decide to use footpegs and they happen to be pivoting or is there a reason to make them articulate?

You are correct, they are the stock pillon pegs wearing front rubbers. I wanted them to be folding as it makes it a bit easier to manoeuvre the bike around without the footpegs digging into my legs.

Nice work Peter.
The sprag modification that you did for me is still working perfectly. Also I still haven't ordered the rear shock springs from Skegness springs that we discussed a year or so ago. If I do I'll see if you still want some at the same time.

Very neat and tidy solution , I am working on a similar system and I certainly concur with your reasoning for the pivoting front rests . Question did you sacrifice a standard gear lever or find an alternative that matched the splines on the crossover change shaft?
Best Regards
Esme

I forgot to also say that this is very nice, right down to your custom logo.

I do worry about sacrificing your kick start, and hope you have well upgraded your estart?! I know that with my mk3 "back in the day" that would have been a fatal compromise.

Hello Esme
I,ve still got the original gear lever. I made the splined arm out of a chunk of aluminium alloy plate. Cutting the splines in the lathe by using the saddle as a shaper. This was made easier by already having a dividing plate mounted on a mandrel fitted to the back end of the lathes spindle (and it associated detent, made for clockmaking, another of my interests!) I can make one for you, if you cannot get exactly what you require.
When i,m totally happy with the gearchange mechanism i will probably make a new splined arm as relieving the front face i broke into the tapped hole for the clamping screw.
RGM up in cumbria sell splined arms as well.
It is the same spline as the right gear change gearboxes.
regards
Peter

Thanks Martin
Its nice to get feedback on stuff. I had a run out to Squires today, I fitted another one of the levers in the morning to alleviate the boot catching issue and shorten the travel. It was better than yesterdays trial run but i had a good look at gear levers on the bikes at Squires (got a few funny looks and comments!) and clocked a few good candidates. Most promising one is on the 2014-15 Honda Fireblades, or the 2015 BMW R1200RT
To our friends in the Colony's. Squires Cafe is one of the biggest Bikers meeting places in the North of England http://www.squires-cafe.co.uk/
Thurday afternoon/evenings is generally known as classic night! and come the better weather it will be packed!
