I was looking at this Mk3 bracet on E-Bay and noticed the 2 mounting holes for the bracket spring tensioner are offset from center. I take that the top center of the cylinder head is not aligned with the frame tube above it ?

The drain hole is centerd as I measured my head steady bracket. Any answer for this? Thank you for your replies. Jerry

Yes its d/t the factory shift of power plant to LH to give some drive chain clearance of 110 to 120 tire widths. I see figures that range from 316" to 3/8". Under tube can get bend one side or the other too so I've had to shim at tube mounts assymetrically to get rubber cushions to line up equally. Must be why most head steadys have slotted holes for head fasteners. Box style fits 750's too but harder to tweak-bend to get neutral slack at the cushions which should no be carrying any engine sag mass tension, that's the iso's job.

Yep, engine about 3/16" offset to the left at the head. I had the same question.

The amount of offset built into the Commando head steady is 1/8", although the engine is offset by approximately 1/8" - 3/16", so the head steady either has to be mounted slightly askew or shimmed the extra 1/16" at the side plate (I don't know how hobot makes it as much as 3/16" - 3/8"?)

Gosh it takes a village to raise up all the variations of Commando children. There may not be another beast who's engineering lists so many obligatory optional shims. Norton tradition that stems from the NAZI bomb raids, no worries Mate' just get a proper shim wedged under that machine and she cut a truer bore. On Trixie who I believe the fins scattering my L knee in deer strike landing bend the small tube 1/4" so ended up levering bending and bashing the 750 plate steady till cushions lined up at same level. Then only took some slot opening to get the rational element square to tube mounts. Then only needed 1/8" washers behind one sides vertical plate.
