I was wondering if 27 thou crank end float is too much on my MK3? I know the manual says it should be a bit less than 27 for MK3 & that is different to earlier specs.
Thoughts?
I think a bit more end float than less might be better. I have a 10 thou shim, but don't like using shims really as I hate taking the bearing outer race out and putting it in again.

Update: nevermind- decided to add 10 thou shim...

cheers

.027 is fine and .017 is too. As long as the crank cant move to the right far enough for the sprocket to contact the case or main seal you will never know the difference. Jim

Thanks Jim. I was always under the impression it should be round 15 thou for some reason. I shimmed it yesterday and checked end float at 18 thou so happy with that. MK3 is coming together really well now :)

Have a great Sunday- Cheers

.015 was a number that has been suggested. Nothing wrong with that.

No Nortons were shimmed from the factory and I have seen them anywhere from .010 to .050 and never seen any problem as a result- except when somebody installs a belt drive on a engine with a lot of crank endplay. Then sometimes the front sprocket will touch the seal or crankcase.

Had to go rebuild my guide puller pump this morning. It decided to dump hydraulic fluid all over my workbench yesterday. :( Jim
