mk 3 intermediate gear

hi. i am refitting the intermediate gear in the timing case. is there supposed to be a spacing washer between the end of the gear and the timing cover? nothing in the parts catalogue and i am concerned about the fit. cheers hillbone

No spacer or washer there on the Mk3. None shown in the parts book. I've rebuilt several, and can verify that from personal experience.

Hi, just a quick thought, the mk3 timing gear and its relative pinion down are slimmer than the previous model's one ........as the crankshaft is wider (by 3mm if i am right) thus the cases should be wider , hence the pinion slimmer, so if you fit them to a pre mk3 cases, they won't be in line with the cam sprocket.....! but may be it's not your problem?
