With Mike/Michelle Duff it's not the prospect of the mere hip surgery that makes my eyes water!
It's encouraging that in the macho world of bike racing she still receives a warm welcome whenever she attends a historic event. A dear friend of mine, ex-president of the TT Riders association, Alan Robinson (sadly now deceased), told me that all the old GP riders take it in their stride and one told Michelle that if she had done the operation during their racing days, they could have shared a camper van and saved a fortune spent plying loose women abroad with drinks.
