I am using the original calipers on the front of my Mettisse, from the T140 1979, I don't like the big fluid cylinder that was original, will a small modern master cylinder do the trick, I know there are ratio issues to think of like on my commando front brake, any recommendations. thanks

My mate has a T140 with original caliper and 12mm Magura master cyl.. The brake is superb, so much so I've bought the same master cyl from Venhill and am fitting it to my Commando with alloy AP caliper

Pictures below show a "chromed" Nissin M/C (works a treat) for my own Triumph:

And another Nissin M/C (in black, and it also works a treat) on my Norton:

Hope this helps, cheers.

Isn't that the same set up that Mick Hemming used to sell but with a different bracket / attachment thingy?

The one on my Norton pictured is from "mikesxs.net" with the link below:

The one on the Triumph is also from mikesxs, but "chromed" with sloping master cylinder.

And THE latest one I have on my Norton, is the BEST, from Don Pender (madass user on this forum) below 8)

am I right in thinking the 12mm is the piston size, all the magura seem to be 1.5 ratio, at around the £225 - £250 cost, would the piston size be the same with other makes? cheers

No, the stroke is 12mm, the piston diam is 13mm.
It's on the Venhill site under -other magura master cylinders-
model number 122000 magura 225 master cylinder, cost is @£112 plus a brake switch if you want one.

I don't know if it's tha same size as the Nissin one mentioned here but I do know that the Nissin ones work well with twin discs as I bought a used Triumph Speedtriple (Nissin) brake master cyl and fitted it up with a pair of discs on my T160.

Generally a smaller MC than that fitted originally is a good thing, think 12/13mm
