Well, I’ve been very chuffed with this bike so far. But this weekend was the first time on the track.

    Now I’m in love!

The suspension that seems a tad harsh on the road REALLY made sense on the track. The brakes, and overall handling were just sublime (for my speeds at least).

I was managing to use most of the tyre, though I clearly wasn’t trying hard enough as I didn’t touch anything down!

Managed to bag two Thruxton though, gonna have to call it the Thruxton Hunter...!

Great to meet up with you Nigel & I'm sure you had a super couple of days - the 961 was going really well round the track & even with the noisy pipes, it was pretty quiet compared to the others - Alan

Thanks Alan, and great to meet and chat with you too.

The only thing that cudda made it a better weekend would have been seeing more 961s out there!

Richard... there was a photographer trackside, so hopefully within a few days I’ll be able to see if he got any good ‘action shots’.

If they were 1200 Thruxton Rs then they must have trying for best fuel economy?

So Thaiumph touts lots of low end torque with the new 1200, and its already been out there that acceleration, it'll kick a 961s ass. Not much talk about top end. Anyone in the know care to enlighten us? Nigel, really good job on the tyre. RESPECT. Been waiting for some good track pics. Thanks.

The 961 certainly cannot be accused of being over powered!

It was only a track day, not a proper race, and there were guys of very differing levels of experience there.

I met the Norton Quality manager there... and we both agreed that there is adequate space for a cute little blower...

Well it must have been putting a fair bit to the pavement to chunk that tire up!

    Indeed.

    Nigel,
Looks as though you were getting down to business!
What pressure were you using in the rear tire?

I tried them at standard settings. Then with 2 PSI less. Then with another 2 PSI less.

I couldn’t tell any difference to be honest!

You running the Dunlop Q3?? Those are what came on my bike, but I switched to the Bridgestones. Sorry I did. Didn't think I'd notice much of a difference, but I do. They're not bad, just not as soft and grippy. Next pair, back to Dunlop.

Standard factory fitted Dunlop Sportsmax Qualifiers. I’m a bit out of touch, so don’t know how these compare in the hierarchy of modern sports tyres, but they’re plenty good enough for me!

No ‘knee down’ shots or wheelies I’m afraid, but at least it’s a 961 in Combat...
