    Now then boys n girls...

To the best of my knowledge, I was the only person brave / stupid / adventurous /naive (delete as appropriate) enough to take a 961 out on the track at last years Festival of 1000 bikes.

It really was a spiffing wheeze.

So how about it, anyone brave / stupid / adventurous / naive enough to bolster the ranks and join me this year...?

A good Norton turnout would be brilliant. Well I'm looking to book a track training day there in June and assuming it doesn't clash with anything this could be possible. Can you give us a bit of info about the event for us uneducated plebs?

Well, as you’re gonna be all trained up it’d be a crime not to attend Clive!

You should check the rules though, just to make sure your huge silencers don’t fall foul don’t of any planning laws, or rules on safety... or taste...!

It’s a good all round event, trade stands, club stands, night time partying, etc. Oh, and lots of track day opportunities too!

Thanks FE I'll put a business proposal to the management for approval.

Just so long as scrutineering don't spot the afterburners hidden inside the pipes.....

That’s not a group of guys John, it’s one guy, George Pooley. He’s a star!

So he's building these wonderful bikes from scratch in his shed and you can't even manage to graft a supercharger onto your 961....

Yeah, that’s about the size of it Clive!

George is wanna those blokes who just make you think “where does he find the time”?!

It’s interesting to see how he’s progressed over the years, from a fairly crude job of bolting two pre unit Triumph engines together, to his more recent V6 Rob North. Its always interesting to see what he’ll do next!

Years ago keen engineers all over the country were making fantastic large scale train and steam engines in their workshops. Unfortunately we're now dinosaurs and soon anyone capable of changing a spark plug will be hailed as an engineering genius. Duhh - of course there'll be no such thing as spark plugs.....

John Anderson (sadly deceased) also built a 4 cylinder , and called it the Rocket 4.
I know that bike was sold years ago , someone somewhere has it !
I also saw a 4 cyl Quadrent that was built in the US.
Yes, George is a star , he always makes a beeline to my missus to explain the cam timing on the 4 cyl, she's more than delighted and said to me once that George had talked her into a coma :)

I saw Johns Rocket 4 a few times Sam, it was bloody gorgeous!

Do you know where it went? Or indeed where the rest of his stuff went? He had container loads of stuff...

No mate, I've no idea where it went or who got it, it's a shame it hasn't been seen since John died. I presume all the stuff (and you're right he had tons) went to autojumbles.
    I still miss John.

    Nige,

Not using the SL? I'm sure you could lend to someone to enter with it.

If (I said IF) I’ve got it by then, I’ll ride it.

No offence to the boys at Donington, but I’m not banking on it...

Cheers Eddie your right i meet him a few times very skilled engineer I'm sure he told me he was a toolmaker in the car industry. The few times i saw them there were about six guys with around 8 bikes each one was a work of art shame the U K bike industry of the 70s could not produce what a few blokes made in garden sheds still a great meeting at Mallory we used to get the best roast Sunday dinners in the U K there on race days.

I’ll be a maybe at this stage, think we will all be busy throughout the year at different events ,however a 961 gathering has got to be on the cards a few times this year, last year March was the first one,so maybe we can try that again when temps start to , so you looking at whole weekend Nigel or just the Saturday?
