Gents,

I bought very much into the concept discussed here previously that it is best to shim the main bearings via a shimming the outer race to crank case rather than inner race to crank shaft.

My usual UK Norton suppliers only sell inner race to crank shims.

My question is therefore, can anyone assist me with supplier and part info for suitable outer race to case shims in the UK?

Suggest you contact a bearing supplier for bearing shims or do an online search to source same in your region.

As an example, McMaster-Carr has quite the selection of round shims but I have not dug through to see if they have a suitable (72mm OD or there about)

http://www.mcmaster.com/

I would measure up what thickness you think you will need and try contacting a reputable and well known Norton engine builder to see what they might have.

Sadly McMaster Carr will not ship to the UK, some weird excuse saying the world will fall in if they do. They are missing a huge market as there is no one doing the same range at their prices in the UK or Europe.

I cut my own as needed with a sheet of shim stock and a pair of scissors. No need to over think this, but then again, for many it's hard to resist.

Had I known I would have sent some with your head. Still can if you want more shipping. Jim

Just tried MSC, will only accept registration from US, Canadian or Mexican addresses :( .

They want you to go through www.mscdirect.co.uk but the range is not the same and the prices are not the same.

I am just shimming mine. You can use VW crank shims. They have 3 sizes available. They were $3 each.
I picked mine up at local auto parts store and they fit pefectly. They are metric, so you need to convert to thou.

Here are the part numbers and sizes:

.34 mm: 113105287A
.32 mm: 113105285A
.24 mm: 113105281A

Also on Amazon. Beware of the ones on eBay

Cheers
Jerry
