I have a 1970 commando that was turned into a production racer look a like back in the early 1990's. The bike was fitted with a magura front master cylinder of which after sitting for many years is need of a rebuild. My initial search for the magura came up empty. I sent pics to Magura they responded saying most of these older parts had been discontinued, however it did not look familiar to them and it may have been some kind of OEM application. I'd appreciate any ideas of a direction or possibly a recommendation for a different master cylinder.

What diameter is the piston in the master cylinder?
What calliper do you have?

Venhill still sell Magura front brake master cylinders in 13 and 16mm @ £156 . I have the 13mm on a couple of bikes and they are great. Look up their website and look for Magura 225 brake master cylinder.

Unless the cylinder bore is corroded, it is likely the only component you actually need is the main seal on the piston. Take it apart, measure it, and you might find something that will fit. Perhaps from another motorcycle application, or from an industrial seal supplier. It could be a little mind bending to begin with, but you might get lucky. IMHO, very few "brake" companies are going to make their own seals for one of their components.

I have the 13mm Magura master cylinder purchased from Venhill.... works a dream & looks the business. also comes with brake light switch. It is a bit of a B*stard to bleed.
Once i worked this out I only now reverse bleed it

The master cylinder is totally corroded and seized up it's been soaking in diesel for a week now.I'm assuming it's a 13mm just because there is a 13 stamped into the casting. This MC is a solid aluminum cast with a sight window on the side of the reservoir with Norton -Lockheed caliper.
I checked out the the Magura 225 from Venhill, it's a totally different look with the plastic reservoir and black paint not the look I'm trying to stick with.
This is all helpful though thanks
