What ignition in everyone's opinion gives the best spark at low cranking speed?
I noticed today when the plugs are out of my commando and I kick it over a my normal (very slow) speed there is barely a spark with lucas Rita ,I get a bit healthy spark if I kick it faster or flick the ignition off
So the question is would Tri spark /Boyer /points etc give a bigger spark at these low cranking speed? And if so why?
Cheers

Points would work at very low revs, the EI's have lockouts or thresholds so will need a few rpm before they fire. Pazon has a sleep feature and will only fire after it has 2 triggers from the stator and a minimum of 200 rpm, that's the only one that I know as a B50 fitted with a Pazon could only be bump started after the Pazon went to sleep, but the others will also need waking up as they all need to sleep to protect the coils and the boxes from overheating, Boyer needs 1 trigger but unknown minimum revs.

If you buy the Tri spark and double outlet coil that Matt sells you’ll get a super low speed spark.

The small electrodes of iridium type plugs have the same effect as a bigger plug gap, so that’s an even bigger spark.

The Tri spark also has anti kick back (I particularly like that aspect when kicking my 10.5:1 850 over) and idle stabilisation built into it.

Bottom line for me is that if you buy the whole kit from Matt, inc coil and plug leads, you know you’ve got compatible gear. Electrical gurus out there may be able to do this for themselves, but Im not, and when someone like Matt stands behind such kit, well, it’s as close as you can get to buying a sure thing IMHO!

That seems to go a long way to avoiding failures.

Add the iridium plugs and you’re sorted.

Just to make sure, with tri-spark there is only one option, or possible, double outlet coil? Have the kit, but haven't put it on yet. I know, what am I waiting for? The revelation that comes from being stranded I suppose. By the way, right now I've got Boyer and I do have to kick it pretty good.

Which ‘kit’ are you referring to Joe?

There are a gazillion different double outlet coils out there!

Which was my point about buying parts that are proven to be compatible and reliable.

As I’m sure you know, Matt at cNw has a great reputation. Not by accident, by virtue of the fact that he works bloody hard to earn it! He would not be fitting ign systems to his bikes if they left his customers stranded by the road side!

If you bought the coil, and plug leads, from him, it is all compatible. If not, maybe not.

My Joe Hunt maggie works great at low cranking speed it fire a big spark and only takes a half swing on the kicker to fire up every time, it works good at low rpms and better at high rpms, off the bike you can turn it by hand and see the spark jump from the lead to what ever you earth it to even with a big gap the spark will jump, I have been zapped by it when turning it slowly and I can tell you it gave me a big boot it wasn't good, over 43 years of ownership the Joe Hunt has been the best ignition system I have used on my Norton and the best thing no need for a battery.

There's some food for thought here,
Thank you for all the replies

Baz..
RGM do a long folding kick start that will improve your lowspeed cranking..The best starting I have ever had is with Pazon smartfire . It was not cheap ,being their top of the range digital setup .I would send them an email and see what they have to say

What you fail to mention is that the battery voltage going into the electronics has a direct bearing here, unless you have self ignition that does not require a battery, a battery with only 5-6 volts will produce an inferior spark and may possibly backfire/misfire whereas one with 10 v will enable the engine to start and run

I have noticed that my 75 starts MUCH better now that I have installed a Shorai battery that rests at around 14v. (Trispark)

the pazon will operate quite happily with that. It has a very low impedence coil, but in general terms yes you are right. Except a Boyer analogue willnot work with 10.5 volts

I have seen them but I have already extended my commando kickstart and it's actually over an inch longer than a t160 one
But thanks for the comment it's appreciated ,
Cheers

Just found my battery was not tip top like I thought it was
It's showing 11.6 volts, is this enough for a Lucas Rita?

I connected a car battery and it started with one lethargic left foot kick!!
New battery now on order
Cheers
