I nearly dropped my bike this week when my pants cuff hung up on the dogbone shaped footpeg. I couldn't get my foot down.
I'm looking for some smaller footpegs, more like a dirt bike style that dont stick out so far.
Has anyone got any ideas, suggestions? Also, what is the mounting thread size? I may just make some to suit.

Just 'cause you're riding a '75 bike doesn't mean that you have to wear 1975 flares !

In thirty-something years of Commando ownership, I don't think that I've ever ridden without leather trousers zipped at the ankles...maybe the odd time in overalls.

Are bicycle clips still available ? :)

I ride alot with boot cut blue jeans and have had cuff snag putting a foot down. There too many alternatives to list so view these and like may end up buying from a Harley only catalog.

Pull the rubber off and just use the steel peg? You could probably find any number of rubbers for Japanese bikes that could be fitted over the pegs. Also many parts dealers offer folding front pegs. That may help to keep from catching your pant leg.

Face It, factory foot pegs on stalks are always going to be in the way of where you naturally step down for balance so really a new peg is just moving deck chairs...
About only partial solution is slice an inch off and tuck pants inside boot like the real motorcyclists did in the day. Once you try rear sets you'll never go back.

Another way I've had the factory peg catch me was going down on RH and peg snatched off but for a nubbin but was enough to peg boot under the bike so could not pull it out, while gas trickled down over points still running sideways at nice idle, amazing thing about a concentric bowl with pick up in the middle.

I suggest sawing off a bit of peg and using passenger rubbers. Everything would look original that way.

Ahhh the mysterious MKIII rearsets Hobot mentioned- Looked everywhere and whilst advertised all seem to be out of stock! Can they still be found?

he he he , happened to me too, once.
I don't have a proper suit or boots, this works for me for now.
It never entered my mind to change pegs.
Might not work too well at speed though, I keep it low, the older I get the slower I go, I'm a back roads man.
I just need a riding suit and boots and nice gloves and the funds.
