Loctite choice

Not the answer to your question I know but I've always used wellseal without any problems or leaks
I use Yamabond on dodgy looking cases (not norton)

518 it is then as it isnt a Norton and it is a very dodgy case.
...and I usually use wellseal which I find quite good.
Desperate situation required desperate measures!

515 is recommended for aluminium alloy to alloy joints but 518 for aluminium alloy to cast iron joints.
Not sure about your question:
Between crankcase halves - 515 recommended, 518 okay
Between crankcase and barrel 518 recommended, 515 okay
Cheers
Rob

Thx for clarification. It is crankcase halves on a Series 2 Interceptor. As they have physically separate cylinders, the
tops of the crankcases move fore and aft in opposition to each other and abraid the surface quite a bit. I need a
really good seal here. Perhaps a Yamabond type sealant better?

I believe the Loctites you mentioned are for rigid joints. If there is to be any flex, I'd go with 3Bond type. I use both accordingly and have no leaks.

One thing to watch for with ThreeBond & YamaBond is to select the correct grade.
From memory Grey (1104) is for joints without gaskets and White (1211) is for gasketted joints.
I have found both to be excellent.

I’m a Wellseal fan, but I’d wager that it won’t seal those Interceptor joints very well at all.

That needs a really good silicone product IMHO.

At the advice of Matchless, I bought a couple of tubes of Victor Reinz grey silicone rubber and it’s been pretty good on everything I’ve tried it on, inc some pretty mullered joint facings!

I got it from Motobins, the BMW parts people in Lincs.

Nigel - never heard the term "mullered". Does that mean it's been attacked with an asshat?

BTW the Threebonds mentioned above are both silicones.

Cheers

515 and 518 for me , no issues to date.
Now using the gaskets from JS to avoid either at cover joints.

Oh dear Rob, do try and keep up...

It means it’s been attacked by (not with) and asshat...!

Silicone works well on asshat mullered faces in my experience.

I confess, for many years I used bathroom silicone (asshat or what)?!

These days I prefer Wellseal wherever possible, and a dedicated silicone like Victor Reinz where I feel some extra help is required.

For us non-sporting types:

<This term probably comes from German international footballer Gerd Muller who used to destroy teams with his sizzling shots from inside or outside the penalty area....>

Of the two, 518.

Loctite do a 518 pen.

Loctite choice

Loctite 515 and 518 are not that different but the curing time of each is.

If you don't want to pay the rather dear prices for Yamabond or it's manufacturer-branded brothers, Permatex Moto-Seal is cheaper and available almost anywhere; auto parts stores, hardware stores, farm supply stores etc.
