Tech question gang:

How quickly does Loctite 242 (blue) set after application?

Got a phone call after I had applied Loctite & inserted some bolts, but before I had a chance to torque them. Maybe 10 minutes elapsed.

Is that an issue that would require removal and re-torquing?

Cheers!

Yes, in the avaiation maintenance field, we have a rule of thumb, you never walk away from a untourqed fastner. because a loose fastner and tight fastner look the same. Blue locktite cleans off the threads realativly easy so I would remove.clean and do over....and just let the phone ring this time

Good advice & for greater certainly, peace of mind, etc. i shall remove, re=Loctite & re-torque.

Never having had this happen, say applying thread locker to already heated fasteners, so the loctite sets up into 'hardened' crust that then get shattered to dust to still bind from working its way off but also interferes with re-torque to full clamp force bolt stretch. It seems to act a bit like an abrasive too if not softened by heat, even if fairly easy to wrench off w/o heat. Remember heated needed to remove w/o undue stressing the thread surfaces or nut flats.
