what size? I will need to order some other parts in the near future but don't really want to have the assemble waiting for 1 foot of wire from my regular supplier.

i'm kind of partial to locktite,
 
I believe mil spec is .020, but it's been 40 years, so my memory may be foggy...
 
You can buy small lengths on ebay for a couple £/$.

Surely not worth the risk of doing without...
 
I'll send you a couple feet. PM me your address and I can get it out this coming Monday. I bought a safety wire twister tool on craigslist from a retiring racecar guy and it came with 2 rolls of wire - I have some .020" and .041" (too huge).

Lots of folks use .016 as you can drill smaller holes more easily if you are careful, and the wire is easier to twist.

I like .020.

thanks for the offer. i found a roll at Princess Auto 7m for about $2.00, that doesn't seem like waste.
