I've done a search but no joy with finding a topic about knee grips.
Does anyone use knee grips on the Roadster model?
There doesn't appear to be a commercially available product, so I may have to roll my own.
The reason I want knee grips is that I've painted my fuel tank, and had to use an acrylic clear coat - I fear it may be a little soft and not up to abrasive leather jeans.
I tried calling a few body shops locally to have it sprayed in 2K, but no one would touch the job.
I have to say that I'm pretty pleased with the job, considering it's my first attempt at spraying a tank:

At your first attemp at spaying a tank you done a pretty good job, as for knee pads do you really need them on all my bikes my knees are nowhere close to tucking into the tank, plus I like wear on my tanks that show their age as well signs of lots of riding miles and if the wear and tear upset you that much then just repaint it when its needed, next time you do it you probably do a better job, but I think you done well this time.

You can get clear self adhesive plastic for sports bike tanks that you cut to size and shape to do what you what. But it could be difficult to fit depending upon where on curvature of tank you want it.

I agree it looks good and time will help the paint to fully harden. Once on a bike of mine with fresh paint i covered tank in soft clothe for first couple of outings or you might put something on your leathers instead. But as said my knee never really touch's my tank as its quite narrow, am sure I've read some don't like it for just that reason.

IMHO knee grips would spoil the look of the tank. So the clear options suggested would be better. Or just buy clear 'sticky back plastic' (as per 'Blue Peter') and cut up your own.

Very nice job of the tank BTW. Nice colour too, what is it?

Another common option that would work well is 3M Paint Protection Film, which is often available in auto body shapes and at new car dealerships where it is used to protect the paint on the front end of vehicles. You cut it to the desired shape, and install by heavily misting the tank with water/alcohol solution, then float/slide the film into position and once located, squeegeeing the film surface to adhere it.

Thanks for all the great replies and words of encouragement - it's most appreciated.
I really liked the look of the Motone knee pads, but they're too long, and cutting them would spoil the lines.
Anything that's associated with the new Triumph Thruxton seems to be fetching silly money - the genuine Triumph knee grips are £55/$72 :(
It looks like 3M film for me, as it won't detract from the look of the tank - great idea.

BTW, the paint is Mercedes Benz Azurite Blue metallic LMC4C.
I bought six 300ml/10½fl.oz. aerosols for the princely sum of £15/$20 at an autojumble/swapmeet - total bargain.
I seem to remember that Norton had a similar midnight blue back in the day, but I may be mistaken.

This stuff dries as hard as nails. Just be sure and wear the proper protection and shoot it in a well ventilated area as it is quite toxic. The problem probably won't be your jeans but any fuel that you dribble on your current clear.

I did do some research on 2K clear coat in aerosols, but decided against using it, as I just don't have the wherewithal to protect myself from its toxic properties.
I do realize that I'm going to have to be very careful to limit fuel spills.
Thanks for the heads up, anyway.

Somebody needs to rescue that poor thing. Probably not going to happen at $7500. You can buy a really nice sorted bike for that. I'd give him a grand for it and stop at the first dumpster.
I've done 2 sets of tins with the Spray max 2k rattle cans and am still here to tell about it. Did wear a good quality respirator, nitrile gloves, hoodie, eye protection. Also, did it in my garage with all doors open and fan running. Shot a coat ran outside. Shot another coat ect.
