Keihin/Mikuni Carbs

Hello contours,

no it is no joke. If you follow is for me indifferent.

I build up a dirt tracker with a 961 engine.
Injection-systems are not allowed.
Before I start from "0" I ask in the forum for some experience.
That was the general idea.

Sounds like a great project, would be great to see pictures as you progress.
From memory the original bike development was on carb's, will be interesting to see whether anyone has access to that information.

Panetone,

On a previous post a while back I mentioned that I'd found a 961 owner who did this same conversion.
He was an early buyer and encountered quite a few problems with the bike that he could not get the dealer or the factory to fix.
I think he had a 2010 model. One of the first to be sold to the public.
Disgusted, he decided to remove the EFI and Electronic ignition and redo the whole bike as a carbie.
He actually had a youtude video of the bike running with FCR's and what looked like a different fuel tank.
At the time that I found the site I thought to myself, this guy has to be nuts to basically destroy his $20,000 bike.

I can't remember more of the details now, but it was very involved, and the guy obviously knew his way around engines.
I wouldn't have the nerve or the knowledge to do something like that to my 961.

I'm going to search to see If I can locate that site again. Hopefully, it's still out there.

The Kenny Dreer 952, from which the 961 was derived, used flat slide carbs. This is the best picture I have of them, and it shows the carbs mounted with standard Mikuni and Keihin style flange mount carb rubbers. I think the intake port flange is the same as the newer bikes, and if so, you should be able to use the same setup for yours.

Oh, I see. Now that I know the purpose I get it. Good luck!
