The FCR 35mm carb pack is a cramped fit in a Commando. Where are the tight spots? I'm considering setting up some smaller bodied 33mm FCRs with custom short manifolds to get around the frame rubbing problem.

Would there be a problem with moving the carbs forward about 3/8" - what about clearance between the throttle wheel and the fuel petcock?

Mine are on an interstate.
Tight points were
- left side clearance to the sidecover fastener through the frame gusset was minimal with occasional contact resulting in a small dent in the top edge of the carb. I haven't noticed any issue on the oil tank mount on the other side so maybe i don't have the straightest of bikes.
- throttle wheel was ok but the bracket the cable adjusters fit into had to be lowered, i had to drill out the rivets and remounted in lower holes via button head cap screws. Easily done. I doubt this would be an issue on a roadster.

Surely Matt Rambow would be a great source of information on this as his dual carbs are of this type?

They do come very close to the gusset plate, but mine have not contacted there.

If my carbs were brought forward 3/8” the cable adjuster and bracket would probably foul the petrol tap.

Trouble is, tank shapes and Petrol tap locations do vary. Engine positions vary too depending on isolastic condition / fitment, etc. So it’ll be difficult to find that ‘sweet spot’ and will likely require trail fitting data from several bikes before you’re there.

On my Commando, the allen screws have rubbed on the gusset plate slightly and the nuts that secure the oil tank rubber on the right hand side and on my Commando the nut that secures the side panel bracket have marked slightly the tops of the carb laterally to the allen screws, despite machining the nuts so that they are quite thin.

Regarding the carb cable mounting plate on the right hand side, with the Interstate tank fitted and the plate on its lower mounting holes it clears ok, but with my Roadster tank fitted it fouled the underside of the tank and so I had to pack the rear of the tank to gain clearance.

Fast Eddie

It looks like your cable end is already at the petcock and moving the carbs forward 3/8" wouldn't make any diff because the cable bracket doesn't extend any further to the right than the cable end does already - or am I missing something?
