Being a guy who instinctively detests parting with hard earned beer tokens for "special stuff" that aint so special (namely K&N filter cleaning kit) I thought I'd share this top-tip.....
I run a Mk3-ish with single Amal black-top 36 carb and K&N cone air filter. (this also works for similar type pattern filters - reusable)
you'll need
*Jug/bowl filled with 50:50 hot:cold water
*1/2 a slack handful of your spouses best biological washing powder (softeners/smellies optional)
*1/2 a cup of engine lube oil and WD40 (20:1 mix)
*raid greenhouse/kitchen for cleaning product applicator (wee squirty bottle thing) or small plant mister
Simply launch washing powder into bowl, mix it up.
Dunk/agitate air filter in cleaning solution for 5mins (watch in curious amazement as the foul crud is washed out of what looked like an ok clean airfilter)
Rince under tap (water direction; from outside to in) and leave to dry
When ready to refit use the lube oil/wd40 mix in a mister and lightly coat the outside of the filter (if you get beads of oil, it's too much)
Fit, fire up and enjoy the breeze!
